There exists a photo of RE Howard with two of his friends. They have a total of three swords - sabers? Does anyone know about this photo? Who are his friends? Whose swords are they? What are they doing, some kind of play-acting?

? ?When I can not stand alone, it will be time to die,? he mumbled, through mashed lips. ?But I?d like a flagon of wine.?

- There's a copy of that photo at the REHupa site ...
http://www.rehupa.co...hree_swords.jpg .
- The picture is also shown on page 388 of "The Last Celt" hb . There it states ( from Left to Right ) , that the figures are Robert E Howard , Truett Vinson and Tevis Clyde Smith ( two friends of REH's ) .
- I'll leave any possible identification of the blades to somebody with more than my meagre knowledge of swords , but REH was known to have cheap swords at some points in time . So they could possibly be Bob's , or even belong to anyone in the picture ?
- It certainly looks as if they are play acting . Perhaps they're the three musketeers ?
Cheers , Danny .

IIRC one of the swords was a saber and one was a fencing foil. I didn't get a good look at the 3rd.
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard
