  - good one matsellah!

'Bears maul Lions' - Conan would've changed his banner after that loss! I stopped watching in the 2nd qtr. and cleanned my garage out.

I'd say Detroit is the Mu of the Hyborian age!

The tattoos that you are talking about B00Bies... the small ones on the ankle, they are very popular in colleges. They are about the same popularity in colleges here in Texas as the 'tramp stamps"... the Tattoos on the lower back/upper butt or just above or right at panty line.

ps- they are called tramp stamps for a reason...

I added a conquerors fight song................

Here's one I did some odd years ago for something else than Conan's Pennon or banner . But I think considering his gigantic mirth , I could see him riding into the tide of battle & the looks of astonishment & fear when his foes get sight of this........

I can almost hear a poetic R.E.Howard style description sung by the bards.............

With great affront the Lions foes are beset .
felled by the scores in the wrath of his ire .
Hearken these words , by days end yet
all knees shall bend midst shouts of "Great Sire".

By wan armies the kingdom never again impuned
he has conquered all , by force , by guile or by wit .
Trampled their yurts , and wassail to our wounds ,
in his wake their cities smouldering piles.............

You see amusing pictures like that throughout history. But somehow, seeing one that dates from ancient Egypt induces a strange feeling. I never thought of the ancient Egyptians as humans with a sense of humor. Somehow it makes me feel closer to them.

I'm guessing he's clicking that little speed clock chess players have during matches.

I have noticed that the new Conan logo seems to be on everything--- the same logo that Dark Horse is using is also on the Del Rey Howard trilogy, for Crom's sake! I have never heard of anything like this before, of a logo transcending all publishers and company brands. Not that that is a bad thing at all, but what I am wondering is... why THIS logo???

Who designed this? If you are wondering about what I am referring to, look up at the top of this page. Yeah, THAT logo. My problem is that it looks a little too... I don't know... kind of DOOFY, I guess, in a way. A little too bright, cheerful, and.. let's face it.. it looks too "Mickey Mouse!"

When I think of a Conan logo, I look back at some of the classics--- the old Lancer paperbacks had a plain but stunning impact with their title font on the covers. The original Marvel comic book (for the first 11 issues) had a powerful fantasy look to the cover title (before the Marvel comic logo went "doofy.") The original Savage Sword of Conan had a stout ring to its visual impression. I remember the berkley Wagner edition of Conan, those covers looked COQUE! Even the movies, as much as I found to gripe about them, you gotta admit that whoever designed that title logo put some elbow grease and inspiration into it. That logo was just about the best thing about those two movies.

Fortunately, the Wandering Star Conan first editions are about the only thing I can think of that do not use this for their title logo.

So what is the deal with this new logo on everything from Todd Macfartland action figures to Barry Smith reprints? Who designed the blamed thing anyway? Was it the same guy who did Felix the Cat? Looks kind of like it. And who thinks it looks stud?? That is what I would like to know...!

Hey, K.

This logo made it's first public appearance in Conan the Barbarian (it's not the postor logo, but the one on the actual film)

A thread covered this topic a few months ago:

http://www.conan.com...topic=2089&st=0

The one thing I like about the logo being on everything is that it's easy to find the product on the shelves when you only have one logo in your head. :P

Buxom Sorceress writes- the CONAN logo on this site looks like it was just rough-cut out of rock by a drunken fred flintstone?

Sounds like she is the closest to my own opinion on this. I don't have anything against a universal logo, as I mentioned. That has interesting possibilities. But when you do that you have to have a really killer logo that everybody thinks is truly stud. Not just some average run of the mill thing. I bet that the guys on this board could easily come up with some Conan logos ten times better than this one is. This one looks like GUMBY or something silly and half witted, juvenile in fact. And the fact that it comes from the movie is very disappointing, assuming that it was chosen by Malmberg or someone like that. What kind of message does THAT send??

Here was a REAL Conan logo:

At least Fred wasn't drunk when he carved that baby!

Actually I just went to look to see if it is the same as the title sequence of the CTB film, and it is not exactly the same logo. This new one has been redrawn, traced perhaps. But the original movie title has wider spaces between the letters. In addition, the letters are not the same in thickness, and while they are shaped the same, the movie title has raised 3-D letters with faceted metallic sides. The title logo, is, in fact, a kind of dumbed down version of the movie poster without the sword through it, etc.

Odd that they would develop it from that in a new Howard purist concept.

I prefer the new one too!

And it's not only a logo... there's a complete typeface - called Hyborian - as well.

The packaging for the McFarlane models, the Mongoose RPG books, etc., all use Hyborian.

(The covers of the new Spanish omnibus editions and the Titan Books collections of the Dark Horse comics use the same logo as Wandering Star... which is the same as on the title pages of the Del Rey editions.)

I think the Star Wars logo is the only other to have been so ubiquitous: http://images.google...ial&sa=N&tab=wi.

No, it is the same logo, just given the look you described. But it is the same logo. I don't think the movie logo is the same as the poster logo, though they both share the raised metalic look (though not the same color). The lettering is far too diferrent, especially the letter "C".

I never was much forr the comic logos or most of the novel logos. I must admit that I prefer this one, even considdering it's origin.

I think you have a very microscopic sense of time, budgie! :)

I am not suggesting that they use an old logo, just that they design one that is high quality and high class, one that looks stud and looks fabulous. And again, I think that many of the guys on here (and gals) could easily design a superior logo to this plain Jane nerd logo. I wish someone would give us an example of this.

Are you familiar with the term " Nostalgia aint what it used to be".. the past is the past, you cant change it.

microscopic sense of time! explain please

I was never a comic reader so that logo means nothing to me..

The book one with the spear was fine for its time but how often did Conan use a spear in the stories.. he was primerally a swordsman..

I like the new logo for its simplicity.. yep, its basic but its still recognisable and unique.. as Ant points out theres a complete typeface based on it so any block of text can be seen as Conanesque.

so far 5 different posters on this thread.. 4 like the new logo, you are the only one that doesnt.. I would say so far its a "yes" for the new logo, however shoud the moderators wish to post a new thread with a poll that may or may not change..

As to fans producing something better Im all for seeing some.. Cant see Conan properties changing a logo thats already established though...

I don't think it's spectacular, but it's pretty good. I'm just glad that the new font is being used universally. The books, the games, the rpg, etc, all should use the same style. title. Recognition is important for any product line.

Here's the thing-- the Lancer logo lasted for about ten years-- the original Marvel logo lasted for one year--- the first Ace logo lasted about five years-- etc. The point being that era of the present that you seem to regard so highly, this microscopic "day and age" if you will, will pass as you blink your eyes! Ten years from now, when they are re-issuing the Conan books with a new logo, then I will remind you of this moment, how it was a mere moment agone.

At that time, I will undoubtedly like the new one better, as it can hardly be as doofy as this one is, and I will then, with some satisfaction, remark that times have changed for the better, off with the old and on with the new. Your era of the doofy logo will be old hat. I just wish I could speed up that day! :) ha ha

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think "simple", "recognisable", and "unique" are good attributes for a logo: something that reproduces well across different media, something that stands out on the shelves in a bookshop or toyshop...

And the Posted Image logo does succeed in this.

Mongoose "dirtied" it for the early Conan RPG books, but that was dropped in favor of a "clean" version.

Other logos might be more elegant graphic designs but they don't have the immediacy of a good logo. Consider why Tom Nikosey's logo wasn't used...
