The Power of the Dark Crystal

Is that a remake of the Dark Crystal, or a sequel?

It's a sequel, and they plan on using a mix of puppets and CGI. Brian Froud is on board, so I'm very optimistic.

Beowulf

Is that animated? The cast list is extremely impressive (Anthony Hopkins, Brendan Gleeson, John Malkovich, Crispin Glover, Angelina Jolie, Robin Wright Penn, etc), so I wonder...

Remember how they based Gollum and King Kong on Andy Serkis' performance? This is the same, except the entire cast are captured, meaning they can pretty much do what they like. King of like rotoscoping with computer.

Imagine they did a sequel or remake of Fire and Ice with this technique, or even a Conan movie with artwork based entirely on Frank Frazetta's style? *shiver gallops down spine*

I had no idea they were making a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie! As much as I spent on their action figures for my son in the 90's I should own a part of the franchise. :D

The teaser trailer looks good:

That's quite a strange trailer. Based on the genre, and Viggo, that's a movie that I would probably like...but I'll be darned if I wasn't checking my watch while the trailer was running. Not a good thing for a preview.

Most American previews are usually shorter, and involve more explosions and fire arrows, and less dialog and character development.

Yeah, I thought it must be a cultural thing.

Never seen that much narration in a preview before.

Also odd that it looks like a Hollywood production, especially with Viggo starring, but it's all spanish dialogue. Makes sense within the movie, but makes me doubt it's a US product.

Captain Alatriste looks pretty good, though I could have broken the freaking computer when I saw "Viggo Mortensen IS.... CAPTAIN ALATRISTE!" I HATE that. Couldn't people see that it was Viggo Mortensen without having to spell it out so obnoxiously?

And D-War... DAMMIT, I WAS GOING TO MAKE THIS FILM! I WAS GOING TO MAKE A MOVIE WITH ARMIES RIDING DINOSAURS AND STUFF! IT'S NOT FAIR DAMMIT!

May be a bit premature but Rambo 4 goes into production in October. Can't wait to see that.

Personally, I can't wait to see the new Rocky film Rocky Balboa! Also, Lady In The Water from director/writer M. Night Shyamalan. I'm a big fan of his movies and usually really like them - Unbreakable being my favorite so far. What movie(s) are you looking forward to? B)

New rocky film? is it a new film continuing the saga OR a redo?
what is with Hollywood and all the damn remakes, it is rampant in the music industry too. Is there not enough talent and creativity to come up with an original idea these days? I started to think of a list of all the redos but that would take up too much of my time to type. I am really am starting to hate it. unfortunately a new Conan movie would fall into this catagory too, eventhough I wouldn't mind and make up an exception, I'll bet others would be thinking the same thing:
"[insert popular movie title from 80's] again? I can't believe they are doing that again."
Should we just start over at jaws and get all of the remakes out of the way so we can finally get to some fresh material or what?!!!

How funny, I too like M. Night but Unbreakable was my least favorite (and the only one I didn't purchase so far.) His other movies are great. I thought Unbreakable was really building up to be pretty cool about halfway through then this serious suspense went all comic booky on me and that was too much. Don't get me wrong I collected comic books for years, but I just thought this movie would be a chiller/thriller like the rest of his and it really deflated me when they revealed DON DON DON!!(cheesy sound effect btw...) his arch nemesis Mr. glass. I expected a suspense or horror, the only horror to me was how campy it got.

but I'm also looking forward to Rambo 4 Other than these movies, I can't really think of anything that I'm dying to see. Maybe Transformers: The Movie and Indiana Jones 4.
Peace,
-M-

Rambo 4 no kidding, I wonder how they will reestablish that series after the 3rd installment went on and on about the gallant Afganistan people blah blah blah and how the Russians were the bad guys for invading them. Funny how things turn out here we are at war currently with the very same people (that we gave military training to a decade before btw) I think that more than does it for this series, how could they ever release a 4 or a box set publicly with that political landmine lurking there waiting to blow up in their faces?

ah the transformers......I laughed so hard when they played that trailer at the theater I nearly fell out of my seat. I'll admit I am curious....I grew up in the 80's after all.

Jones?, man I have been waiting for Jones 4 for a decade now talk about your all time tease and no pay off. they hyped that talk for years, I'll just bet it isn't Steven Spielburg or Ford holding it up it is the wizard of all creation (in his mind,) George Lucas. He has been shooting down script ideas on this one for years. Harrison Ford ain't getting any younger and anyone else would ruin it for me.

The Power of the Dark Crystal

Ah I see someone else is aware and anticipating this one. good show old man. Now are you just as hyped for Goonies 2? ( I've heard scuttlebutt about this buthave yet to go verify it on imdb or some other site...)

Q~ are you aware they made like three of them already? great. another 80's remake, are they going to revamp popeye and the garbagepail kids movie too?

do you remember dinoriders cartoon (and toy line )from the 80's based on this very premise?

Pirates was pretty good and I am interested to see how they end off the series. i just read an article that said they have changed the Pirates of the Carrabean ride at disneyland yet again (they made it politically correct some time ago, no more chasing after scantily clad women and such), yes that's right they inserted jack Sparrow (3 times) and Davie Jones and barbosa as well....

Mayhap you should watch the trailers in the links mr. grim - you will see the story adds to the legend of the Rock. I can't wait for this one, mi amigo. :D

see, I see The Village and that's campy - Unbreakable suffered a little for taking itself to serious but I still really enjoyed it.

Again grim, the trailer man! I would have to be pretty stupid to not know about the other movies (the kid toy reference) - I'm just as surprised as you that they are going to make another one. What does the Q infinity sign mean?

My thoughts on remaking older movies franchises - if you don't want to go see them then don't go. Some movies are worth re-visiting, some are not. The choice is yours. I don't get worked up about it. Like you said, Conan is a perfect example.

You do know that Unbreakable was a comic book movie, right? That was the whole point, . I thought it was his best movie, myself.

I went to Florida a few weeks ago, and, yes, the Pirates ride is different but Barbossa isn't in it. He may be in the California one, though, as I've heard he is in it. He's just not in the one in Florida.

Goonies 2!?!?! You're having me on! Though I can't imagine how they'd do it. Maybe the children of the original cast go off on an adventure, with the old guard going after them bickering and arguing and reminiscing. Oh man, this could be really good...

do you remember dinoriders cartoon (and toy line )from the 80's based on this very premise?

I still have my collection of dinoriders somewhere in my cupboard :D But I was meaning having knights and barbarian warriors riding dinosaurs rather than aliens with lasers and such. But then again I was also ripped off by Dinotopia and Paraworld, so I can't complain too much. I'm sure there's enough room for my dinosaur armies.

What, no more buxom lassies getting chased around by drunken buccaneers? How utterly disappointing, if not unsurprising (stupid political correctness).

You know what kid's TV show I want to see return? The Visionaries! It only lasted a dozen episodes, but the production values were great, and it had a very grim, dark atmosphere of a dystopian future. It featured a Great Cataclysm as well.

I do NOW, but I sure didn't when I plunked my butt into the theater seat and began munching my popcorn....It was never marketed as such in the trailers and T.V. spots and noone had any indication it was until the first film critics started to review it. (After I went.)
The trailers and whatnot made it out to look very suspenseful and with his other films to date that is what everyone thought at the time.

From the rumor mill, Goonis 2 is supposed to take place in the desert. It's the children of the kids from the original on their own adventure. Of course, this was the info on the film as of about two years ago. They have been talking about it for a long time now. Here's hoping it happens.
