Man does that make me feel old . Generation 'x' dinosaur . Every now & then it'll be on t.v. & I catch a few minutes of it & it's like I'm still a teenager watching it - that was a fun movie for kids . I hope if this gets made they do a good job & keep the fun of the first one - the kids of generation 'why' need some 'decent' escapism movies & there's been a def. shortage of those the past buncha years .It's the children of the kids from the original on their own adventure. Of course, this was the info on the film as of about two years ago. They have been talking about it for a long time now. Here's hoping it happens.

Neat, thanks for the link Kortoso, didn't know this one was coming. D&D in animation it may work so much better than in cheapo live action movie, I really look forward for that one, the voice talent list is impressive at least.

Another way in which it differs is that the ants, although they are victimized, are not helpless victims. They are depicted as creatures of dignity, grace, and power, in their own realm. All the insects are beautifully depicted, with great animation. The wasps manage to look as lethal as F18 fighters.
I really recommend this to anyone who is a fan of fantasy animation.
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

This depiction is in fact true of all ants...... [The ants] are depicted as creatures of dignity, grace, and power, in their own realm. ...

Midnight is based on the Fantasy Flight roleplaying game Midnight. This is an independent film effort and looks very promising. I have the 2nd edition core rulebook and it is an excellent book filled with an elaborate history that is a satisfying read all by itself. Think, what if Frodo failed? And that is Midnight. I've never played the game before, due to time constraints, but hope to soon. I'll definitely try and catch this movie.

Whilst I quite like the idea of the Dark Lord being victorious, this still sounds suspiciously like the Good Guys Win Again that frequently plagues genre films. I mean, I presume that even though the Bad Guys are in control in the beinginning, would I be correct in assuming that the band of heroes eventually triumph? Look at Star Wars: even though the Empire is supposed to be in total control of the galaxy, they are seen to win only ONE BATTLE (Hoth), and even then with a vastly superior force, and they STILL suffer tremendous casualties. I'm sick of it. Same in LOTR: the Dark forces only win the siege of Osgiliath (a few hundred orcs fighting about TWO DOZEN soldiers) and NEVER EVER WIN any other battles, unless you count the sack of villages and slaughter of defenseless peasants.
Just once, I'd like to see a big epic fantasy/SF film where the bad guys WIN dammit. Heck, even do a switcheroo and make the dark forces the main characters, it'd be better than nothing.

It's a grand idea. I would also like to see this done once in a while, just to take the audience by surprise. Horror movies are like this all the time but not fantasy/sci-fi, like you said. Maybe the studios just don't think audiences would take well to that type of ending?

In Chronicles of Riddick, the "bad guys" sweep over every opponent they meet.
Heck, you could argue that a "bad guy" (Riddick) wins in the end too.

This is Midnight - where evil rules and the last, brave heroes strive against unbeatable odds...fighting a secret war that most people believe was lost a hundred years ago. Their greatest foes are often suspicion, resentment, and fear of the very people the heroes are striving to champion and protect.
The above is straight from the Midnight rulebook - there is no war - Izrador won the war 100 years ago. The people have been tamed and would rather turn their mother over then face the wrath of a Legate. I sincerely doubt there will be a overthrow of Izrador in the movie but instead a small uprising of heroes who don't accept the darkness as their ruler - and strike back against Izrador by striking at his legates. I hope it's good - the setting is very unique and should be very dark. Hence the name.

Ah, haven't seen Riddick yet.
I don't see how the bad guys "won" The Empire Strikes Back. Han gets trapped in carbomite, Luke drops out of a fight with Vader, but otherwise the good guys still win (ie escape with their lives more or less).
Horror tends to let the forces of darkness win a lot more than SF/fantasy. Series like The Outer Limits and Twilight Zone pretty good for stuff like that.

Look for a fantasy paperback called "Villains by Necessity" or "Villains of Necessity", something like that, I don't exactly remember.

Why was the following never completed and released?

I'd kill members of my own family to see this put on screen.

Another Viking in production From Pathfinder to Outlander
Karl Urban sure loves his Viking movies. The star of the forthcoming Viking-themed Pathfinder is set to topline the sci-fi creature flick Outlander.
Urban's role was not revealed by ProductionWeekly.com but it can be assumed that he plays the humanoid alien who crashes on Earth c. 509 A.D. The alien unwittingly lets loose a terrible monster, Moorwen, that he must capture with help from a Viking tribe.
That's a cool concept. We'll see how well it's executed.

It's well before the Viking Age (which is generally agreed to have started with the sack of Lindisfarne in 793 AD), so they could be looking at a more mythological outlook, as seen with the monster Moorwen. I don't know where Moorwen came from though. It might not be relevent to the story, but certain historians consider the first decade of the 6th Century about the time of the Battle of Badon Hill, a major British victory over invading Saxons attributed to King Arthur. Perhaps something happens 20 or 30 years after the alien crashes.
Interestingly, there were a series of climate changes in 535. Apparently the sun was obscured, and it became extremely cold, possibly as a result of volcanic eruption. Perhaps this Moorwen had something to do with it? It was also the time of Justinian and Belisarius, the foundation of the Frankish Kingdom, and the destruction of the Vandal Kingdom. 537 is the traditional date for the final battle between Arthur and Mordred.
