Happy Thanksgiving, All!

See, what am I thankful for this year...

1. A heck of alot of Howard/ Conan stuff coming out, for one thing. It's kinda like that song, "I was country when country wasn't cool," but now it getting cool again. A resurgence of Howard, but a better one this time. A golden age?

2. A board full of other gents I can chat with about one of my favorite subjects that takes up way too much of my time. But hey, at least you guys not only listen, but you converse about the same thing. I try too often to bring up REH with real people and kinda get blank stares that are ready to move on to the next topic. Besides, I don't have to go out to hang out with you guys, so you're cheap too! Ah, conan.com, good on the budget.

3. Oh, yeah, and the boy.

Now, time to fast for tomorrow's big feast! Cheers, amigos!

Living in the free world. Not everyone gets that chance.
"It is more than a mortal sea. Your hands are red with blood and you follow a red sea-path, yet the fault is not wholly with you. Almighty God, when will the reign of blood cease?"

Turlogh shook his head. "Not so long as the race lasts."

I'm thankfull for: my father's winning battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma, for mine and my family's health, my job, this forum and all of you that contribute. Because without you guys there wouldn't be such a great vent/distration from my torrential life.

What? An entire family and just one casualty? That's appallingly suboptimal... I'd have thought that after all your backyard training you'd be more proficient in carving a bloody path through your kin :P

By Mitra, that is awesome! Where can I see a larger version of it? And where can I buy a poster of it?

My friend said he found it on someone's myspace page. I believe that it is a Frazetta movie poster or book cover.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm grateful that my spine is recovering from stenosis, and I'm grateful to my chiropractor and my physical therapist, and that I will hopefully soon be returning to work.

I am grateful to my nephew who is helping me build a website where I can put updated versions of my screenplays.
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Is this the traditional way of marking Thanksgiving then? Bleeding obvious really, but not being a colonial ( ;) ) I wasn't aware of it.

Is the Harvest-Home festival still celebrated anywhere in the Isles ?

Well, that and the conspicuous consumption. We had dim sum rather than turkey this year, much more fun!

not particularly. some christians practice a harvest festival type thing, which is another pagan tradition swiped by them, but generally, not much.

I'm necroing this because of events from this past week and the past year.

This time last year I had finialized a divorce and was well on my way to returning to a full fledged binge drinker. A situation that, imo, led to some of my later health problems.
Though luck or divine intervention, possibly both, I met a woman who shared my love of science fiction and fantasy. In addition, she had the ability to look past my less then charming exterior and decided that I was a person worth her interest.
In fact, I interested her enough that she stuck with me through my stroke and recovery. A thing that is beyond amazing given that I know that I was all but impossible to put up with for more then a few months.
Last month she surprised me even more when she said; "I Do", and became my wife.

So first and foremost, I am very thankful for you Samantha. You've proven to me that there is always hope and that no matter how much a person might give up on themself, there are those who will never give up on them.

This was reenforced this past Monday when I was once again in surgery. This time to have my gall blader removed. It was sudden and completely out of the blue. But she was there when I went into the operating room and there when I woke up in recovery.

The second thing I'm thankful for is all of you. Even at my worst reading the posts on this forum reminded me that there is a hugh fandom for Howard and all things sword and sorcery. It helped to know that I was not alone in my love for both the author and the genre that he helped to create. So know that what to some of you is just a hobby or interest helped a stranger get through the worst time of his life. Thanks.

I know that I have not been on this forum as much as in the past. I hope to remedy this soon. I've been re-reading the stories, I've been going over the posts, and I'm ready to come back with a vengence.

In typing this I realized something. Being thankful is not something that should be limited to a single day of the year. It should be an on going process. Everyday we do things that effect other people and, in course, we are effected by the people around us. Big or small, we need to take the time to say thank you to those people out there who do help to enrich our lives.

So once again, thank you to the members of conan.com and thank you Samantha. I doubt I'd be here if it was not for all of you.

And force upon Mankind the Freedom he fears--
And dead gods I will again defy?"

Well said. You've been through a lot, and it's nice to see things going in your favour. And a big congrats on your marriage.
