Still, I just had to take 5 mins off work and find somewhere quick to post a link to this Guardian review which contains this rather provocative statement (which surely deserves some comments!):
...the Conan upgrade is entirely in keeping with the spirit of the original pulp novels and comic-book spin-offs all of which shone a similarly inquisitive light on those learned genre tenets of gore-porn and what scholars refer to as "teen-masturbatory erotica".
(The writer counts L. Sprague de Camp's pastiches as "original", but this drivel is insulting even to his version of Conan!)
