I`ve been navigating on Amazon.com and I found out that the Creepy Archives and Eerie Archives are selling fairly well and the editions are all hardcover, with slick, shiney paper and original format.
Recently, here in Brazil, Mythos has published a special edition of Conan called "The Liberator" including all stories that were published in the old SSoC that told how Conan became the king of Aquilonia (Beyond the Black River, The Treasure of Tranicos, among others). This edition was also a hardcover book, with slick paper, 500+ pages and gigantic format (bigger than the original SSoC). Here is a pick:

It is selling quite well among fans in Brazil and I`m wondering why Dark Horse didn`t want to realease such editions.
It is a shame because the new run of reprinted SSoC material is something not to be kept along the years, unfortunately.
So, I was wondering if you guys would be willing to pay for such a deluxe series, including hardcover editions, slick paper, original format, covers in full color... How about that? Would it have any chance to be a sucess?

I'd be more then willing to pay up to $50.00 for such a high quality edition.
But I would like the stories to center round a specific theme.
"I vanquished Law once, I'll conquer yet again--
And force upon Mankind the Freedom he fears--
And dead gods I will again defy?"

Hell yes I'd pay for a PROPER presentation of the SSoC reprints. The paper Dark Horse has been using for the phonebooks will start browning over time, and if I want that, then I can buy back issues of the original mags (I'd get the articles and letter columns as well.)

For high-quality paper (not that type they use for Space Family Robinson, but Archive paper,) you can count me in for the long haul.

I think it's worthwhile...the pulp editions I have are deteriorating pretty fast due to the ammount of humidity here...and thanks for the heads up Aquilonia...found the beast for $R 99,00 with free shiping.

I think a collection of just direct Howard adaptations in this format (probably 2-3 volumes?) would be a good place to start. I don't necessarily need every SSOC ever in this format.

I don`t need every SSoC in this format too because many of them are not worth keeping.
But how about a Roy Thomas Archives in this deluxe format? Dark Horse has already done it with Barry Smith (not all Conan the Barbarian run was collected, but only the numbers in which Barry Smith worked). Dark Horse could release a Roy Archives including all the stories he adapted for SSoC in hardcover deluxe editions, in their original format.
That sounds pretty good, uh?

Seconded.

It's about time that comics honored the writers as well as the artists, and Roy Thomas is singly responsible for there being a successful Conan comic in the first place. And before the BW-S (before whom few stand as artistic equals) supporters jump on that, just remember that without The Words there would have been no Art.

Roy did all the REH adaptations (so we'd score there,) plus his original stories were damn good as well. So a hardcover collection of his run on ALL the Howard comics would be most welcome.

Tex
(AND a fitting tribute to the work he put into those comics both in front of and behind the scenes)

I agree, Dark Horse should give Roy something like that. And when we talk about Savage Sword I understand it is a no brainer, really.
Creepy and Eerie are having such a nice treatment, I mean, 1st class treatment, I just don`t get it why Savage Sword can`t have the same handling.
Those newspaper reprinted editions are nasty. SMH...

I wouldn't buy a deluxe edition, but maybe that's me being a stingy miser. All the books I buy are paperbacks.
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Prior to the Darkhose "phone books" coming out I might have said yes, but now the answer is no.

I would buy a collected hardcover, artwork restored, edition of the Hour of the Dragon; collected from Giant Size Conan and Savage Sword. I know, I know, some of it would be in color and some in black and white - I just don't care; I'd like the story collected under one cover.

And you can find this kind of collected hardcover right here (if you know Serbian language :) ): http://www.darkwood....s/konan2rs.html

This is Serbian Deluxe edition (in Serbian language) of collected SSoC (1-235). All in black and white hardcover, with giant, and I mean GIANT dimensions of 34 cm x 24cm, and with tons of adittional material and very big poster (in color) in each issue. Weight of edition is 3 kg. Publishing house is "Darkwood" from Belgrade. Current book is No. 3. All books have covers of each number of SSoC reprinted in book in color.
Book No. 2 (with your wish fulfilled - complete HotD) has 370 pages of high quality paper.
Best edition of SSoC in the World, for sure, and I am very happy owner of all three books (so far...) B) .

Do you speak Serbian? Gosh, gotta learn it right away. Cannot depend on Dark Horse to get my hands on a collection such as this.
This is a real collection, not that toilet paper Dark Horse is providing the readers.

DARK HORSE, DO YOU SEE IT??????? This is how it should be done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I actually prefer those books with the original covers.
Anyway, a minor gripe.
Very beautiful editions, it seems.

Ho there, sword brothers.I've been a Conan fan for atleast 30 years now and I'm new to this message board.Recently I expressed on the Dark Horse message board my strong dislike and disgust of their treatment of "Queen Of The Black Coast".In short,I absolutely hate it but I won't go into all the reasons why on this thread. However,in one of my posts I stated that it would be really cool if they (Dark Horse) would publish a hardcover reprint of Marvel's "Queen Of The Black Coast" in the same way that they published the two hardcover reprints of the Barry Windsor Smith Marvel Conan collection a couple of years ago, especially since there are so many of us who are a bit disenchanted,to say the least, with Cloonan and Wood's interpretation it would be a great alternative to this travesty they're putting out there now and it would also be a fitting tribute to the late, great John Buscema and Ernie Chan.In my opinion,Marvels QOTBC was FAR superior.Personally I've decided to not spend another dime on DH's QOTBC but for a hardcover reprint of Marvels QOTBC I'd be willing to spend good money for a classic work such as that.Thats just my opinion. What do you guys think?

What kind of responses did you get on the DH message board?

Ho there Ironhand,..As far as the hardcover Marvel reprint idea is concerned,I got no response whatsoever.Maybe I'll try again and this time try to drive the point a little harder. But I can't believe the amont of DH members that seem to be pleased with DH and their rendering of QOTBC.It's really beyond me.

I've been advocating DH go ahead and color the whole thing since they first started the Conan line. They also should try to add in the explanation about why they had to make the switch in formats, I think it appeared in SSOC #11 or #12.
