In Topic: Conan's Literary Descendant Is Back!

Are there weird/supernatural elements in the story or its prequel?

I am thinking on ancient mysterious gods, monsters etc, like in the Conan yarns.

No, sorry, no mysterious gods, just lots of action, and one of the longest battle scenes ever written.

If you get tired of the pulps, you might want to try what I refer to as Conan's Literary Descendant.  "Dawn of Empire" features a heroic character (Eskkar) who shares many traits with Conan, but in a realistic, non-fantasy setting.  Set in the early Bronze Age, Eskkar faces plenty of action as he helps turn a village into history's first walled city.  Published by HarperCollins, and now available in paperback.

As a big REH fan, I'm sure you'll enjoy Dawn of Empire.  (I'm the author, BTW)

The sequel, Empire Rising, will be released in a few weeks, also from HarperCollins.

Check out the reviews at my website, www.sambarone.com, or at Amazon.com.

Eskkar

Since books in bookstores are arranged alphabetically by author, would you mind telling us your last name?

Ironhand,
sorry, forgot to include my name.  Sam Barone, aka Eskkar, author of Dawn of Empire & Empire Rising.    The hero in both stories follows in Conan's sandals, with many of the same problems.
If you do pick up a copy, please let me know what you think.

Not at all.  My name is Sam Barone.  Dawn of Empire has been out for a year, so your local B&N might not have it on the shelves, but they can certainly order it.  Or you can pick it up from Amazon.  If you do, please let me know what you think.  You can contact me through the website, www.sambarone.com.
thanks for your interest.

While not an expert on Greek hoplites, I'm fairly certain they would be using iron swords.  They would have relied heavily on bronze armor, which gave them nearly head to toe protection.

And I'm fairly certain that a bronze sword is somewhat less likely to shatter than an iron one.   Both can shatter under heavy usage, or from impurities in the casting process.  But bronze actually hardens as it ages, unlike iron, which weakens steadily via oxidation.
