In Topic: Help, I Need A Book With A Pict Story (non-howard)

19 May 2008 - 12:33 AM

I'm looking for any books that aren't written by Howard where there are Picts involved. ...

Would you be interested in anything like the fantasy series by Juliet Marillier "The Bridei Chronicles" consisting of, so far, The Dark Mirror (2004), Blade of Fortriu (2005), and The Well Of Shades (2006)

BTW: Bridei (or Brude) was the name of many Pictish kings.

Not sure what you are after, but you might look here:
http://www.whiteunic...age=shop/browse
They offer a 10% repeat discount for repeat customers, so mention that you would like the 10% discount if you buy more than one book.  S&H is reasonable also.

BTW: Although my wife really runs our store, I do help out a little now and then.

Kylel,

Thanks for the info.  When you say "All illustrations throughout the Del Rey books are black and white" I'm not sure whether you mean ALL of the Del Rey books or are possibly confused between the Del Rey SFBC books and the publishers edition Del Rey book.  I know all of the SFBC copy illustrations are in B&W (I have copies of them).  The SFBC Conan books were published by Del Rey (the 1st and 3rd) and Ballantine (the middle one) for the SFBC.

In addition to the SFBC copies, Del Rey published "The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian" in a "publishers edition" [pe] a couple of years after they did the SFBC version.  To distinguish the pe from the SFBC version, I believe they made the book a tad bigger [the same size as the SFBC volumes 2 and 3] and announced that the illustrations were going to be in color.  Amazon gives the size of the pe book as 9.3 x 6.3 x 1.3 inches which is the size of the latter two SFBC books.  However, I can't seem to find mention of whether the interior illustrations of the pe version are in B&W or are in color.  But I do vaguely remember someone saying they were in color [in addition to the announcement that they were going to be in color] and have run across statements like the one made by Mikey_C.  But I don't have a copy of that version so I asked here.

Note both Del Rey and Ballantine are part of the Random House Publishing Group.  They also published a Kull [Kull, Exile of Atlantis], Bran Mak Morn [Bran Mak Morn, The Last King], and Solomon Kane [The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane] book for the SFBC

The three books mentioned are available in both hardcover as well as paperback. Although Del Rey finally did "The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian" in hardcover after the SFBC had published the copy [in a smaller format?], only the SFBC has done the other two in hardcover:

The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian
SFBC - 992357: Illustrated by Mark Schultz; Hardcover;
496 pages; Del Rey Books; December, 2003

The Bloody Crown of Conan
SFBC - 743729: Illustrated by Gary Gianni; Hardcover; 384 pages; Ballantine; November, 2004

Conquering Sword of Conan
SFBC - 078961: Illustrated by Gregory Manchess; 384 pages; Del Ray Bks./Div Of Random House; November, 2005
