Hey gang,

I have read a lot of King and Howards works.
Some are good and others......

But for King to say that someone elses work is inferior?
He should try re-reading some of his own drivel !

King knows about hard times and living from check to check being a writer.
So did Howard.
And Howard did it while our country was in a depression.

I do agree with some of the others on this forum.
Kings best work were his shorter stories.
When King writes novels, it starts becoming a James Michener book.

I do feel that Kings best writing days are behind him.
I hope he proves me wrong !

In Topic: Continuity Blunders In Non-thomas Conan

04 July 2008 - 06:29 PM

"The Corridor of Mullah-Kajar" is lame on so many levels. In issue 115, Conan was in Shem. Following the official timeline, Thomas had him where he needed to be for "Hawks Over Shem" to unfold. By issue 117, Conan has already travelled across the entire continent to Turan, and then doubled back to Zamboula! Forget the fact that Conan has already burned his bridges in Turan (issues 21, 38) and would not be caught within 1000 miles of its border.

Conan's mother looks like Pocohontas. The way he recites poetry while fighting is beyond stupid.

"Ponder this paradox, mage. If you are not mortal, then by your own hand can you be slain". I'm sorry, I must be slow regarding the "rules" of magic in the Hyborian Age, but I just don't get it. Can someone explain that part to me. <_<

I guess that it must be remembered that this was a transition period for the writers.
And remember the demographics of who these comics were written for.( Hint- teens!)

Although it has been some 25+-years since i read the comic
the answer to the paradox was that earlier in the story it was stated that Mullah Kajar
could not be killed by mortal hands.I think by the hottie slave girl in the chains.

Of course i still like RT's work the best.

In Topic: Chronicles Of Conan #15:The Corridor of Mullah-Kajar and Other Stories

Hi gang !

I don't have this Chronicle but i have the original comics.

My opinions on these stories..
# 116 "Crawler in the Mists" not real bad. Kind of predictable.
Was a fill in story after Thomas left.Would have been called a reprint but it
hadn't been printed as a Conan comic before.

# 117 "Lair of Mullah Kajar"
One of my favorite non-Thomas stories. Nuff Said.

The rest are good.
Just don't expect them to be Roy Thomas.
The stories are good on their own merits.

Some interesting characters in this collection.

#118 The return of an "old friend !"

# 119 Another old friend.

#120 A new Old (and do i mean OLD!) Friend !

# 121 A new Good friend !

And if the DH people continue this theme and storyline,
then the next Chronicle will show the return of one of Howards earliest
characters ! #122 !!

Later dudes,
Mike C.
