About Me
I have been a RE Howard fan for over 30 years. I was lead to Howard's writing as a kid via the old Marvel comics (hey, we've got to discover him somehow!), as I would often come across the occasional Conan or Kull comic. Rather liking the world they drew me into, I was prompted to buy my first Conan paperback when I was about 11 years old...and that was it. I was hooked on Howard's Conan, augmented by the wonderful Frazetta paintings that were often on the covers. I eagerly sought out all Howard's Conan tales, as well as those by other authors (sadly, many of which did not measure up), and then began to branch out into the Solomon Kane, Bran Mac Morn, Cormac Mac Art and King Kull tales.
As a long time Howard fan, I have always been disappointed by the dearth of decent screen portrayals of his characters or stories. The highly anticipated Conan movies were clumsy efforts, not coming close to capturing the essence of Howard's character, and the sad King Kull effort was notably worse. I live in hope that one day someone will do justice to Howard's creations, and bring us a laudible piece of work to the silver screen. Although opinion about the recent Solomon Kane movie is divided amongst Howard fans, I really enjoyed it and believe is closest yet to realising this. My hope is that there will be sequels which will be even better and at last do justice to Howard's legacy. As for Conan, the most famous of Howard's characters, a film maker with a real understanding of the character needs to get a grip, stay true and get it right!
