IF and when a third Conan movie gets made, and I wholeheartedly hope it will, with Arnold and Milius,I'd still want MORE!And what a greater way to celebrate the upcoming movie, than to coincide its release with a full 2 1/2 or 3 hour-long,epic,bloody,unrated version of the original on DVD?!WITH EVERYTHING REINSTATED!Seeing Arnold in his prime again...nothing would compare to that!Hacking and slashing his way through in the orgy chamber, killing a couple of ladies along the way...or Subotai killing the beast with the three eyes,a 6 minute-long pitfighting sequence,Nadiuska's & Saralo's decapitating scenes...As Milius used to say, carrying his infamous canister....MORE BLOOD!That would be the ultimate Conan version...And after Milius' version was complete with "Crown",it'd be wise to get Roland Kickinger to fill in...as mercenary, bucaneer, condotierre, etc.

Personaly, I would love to see a completeiy restored version of CTB. While I do not feel that it is a truely definative Conan film, it is a definative S&S film that desirves to be seen in all it ture gorey...err glory.

I got the chance to see a test showing of the film several months before its general release and I've always wanted to see THAT version a second time.

Lucky you. I remember they announced a 'sneak preview' of the film well before its release by running an ad in the local paper. Buddy and I went down-town and smack dab into a lineup that wound down the street and around the corner. It was also one of the coldest nights of the year. Needless to say we counldn't get in - even when they decided on an extra midnight showing. Afterward I heard it was a largely unedited version, probably along the lines of the one you saw. The only good that came out of the evening was that I met Carol Pope, the lead singer of a rather infamous local band called Rough Trade.

Why was there such a long line? After all, nobody had ever heard of Conan before the general release of the movie, right? Does this mean that Conan was already popular before the movie came out?

Wow, I nearly bit my tongue off on that one, and then my fingers rebelled and typed it anyway.

Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

I can only answer YES. It surprised the hell out of me, too, in a negative kind of way... :) Mind you, I'm talking of Toronto, which has a fair size population.

A funny story. After it was released there was a letter to the editor of one of the local papers. The guy was complaining about false advertising. He thought 'Conan the Barbarian' was about some guy on an English rugby team that had the Barbarian nickname. :)

Nope I was born in 1983

I don't know how old I was when I first saw Conan, maybe four or five. But I remember it fondly, Watching it with my dad. We rented it so it still had all the gore and what not. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. It might be responsible for forging me into who I am today, by Crom.

an updated version of the movie would be awsome

You guys are making me feel older then I am. In 1982 I was 20 and finishing up my first associates degree.

Well I don't really know what I am today, but I would not argue with any one who called me a barbarian.

Just during different parts of my life I've thought to myself "I'm doing this because of some thing I saw on Conan"
I have long hair, that I've been growing since first grade(when the mullet was still sort of cool)
I have a tattoo that looks like my own modified version of the Atlantean sword. And I've been fascinated with swords since I was two. (The swords thing started when I began watching He-Man. And He-Man was original a line of Conan toys that was dropped when mattel saw that Conan was too gory for children.)

About this toy subject Beowulf refers to,he's right, that's how Masters of the Universe came to be-the cartoon came later-the figures were there first (God knows how they came up with the Howardian Thulsa Doom skull head version that turned out as Skeletor! - Snake Mountain is the kiddie transformation of the Mountain of power). But,nowadays,we can still have a ton of movie-related stuff including toys and figures and still have our movie rated RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.I mean just check out all those Leatherfaces,Jasons,Aliens,Freddies,Terminators and countless other horror action figures, statues and model kits. And since there are at least two different Regan McNeil figure versions out there with twisting heads, why please can't we have a decent X rated re-released version of the 1st Conan or at least a SUPER HARD R rated King Conan?????????

I think I must be about the oldest one here. I was in my early 30's when I first saw CTB in Chicago back in '82, I believe. I even bought the soundtrack when it came out , though the tape is long gone now. SOOOO long ago and far away (but that's a different movie!).
