I got the chance to see a test showing of the film several months before its general release and I've always wanted to see THAT version a second time.

Lucky you. I remember they announced a 'sneak preview' of the film well before its release by running an ad in the local paper. Buddy and I went down-town and smack dab into a lineup that wound down the street and around the corner. It was also one of the coldest nights of the year. Needless to say we counldn't get in - even when they decided on an extra midnight showing. Afterward I heard it was a largely unedited version, probably along the lines of the one you saw. The only good that came out of the evening was that I met Carol Pope, the lead singer of a rather infamous local band called Rough Trade.I got the chance to see a test showing of the film several months before its general release and I've always wanted to see THAT version a second time.

Why was there such a long line? After all, nobody had ever heard of Conan before the general release of the movie, right? Does this mean that Conan was already popular before the movie came out?Lucky you. I remember they announced a 'sneak preview' of the film well before its release by running an ad in the local paper. Wow, I nearly bit my tongue off on that one, and then my fingers rebelled and typed it anyway.

I can only answer YES. It surprised the hell out of me, too, in a negative kind of way...Why was there such a long line? After all, nobody had ever heard of Conan before the general release of the movie, right? Does this mean that Conan was already popular before the movie came out?

A funny story. After it was released there was a letter to the editor of one of the local papers. The guy was complaining about false advertising. He thought 'Conan the Barbarian' was about some guy on an English rugby team that had the Barbarian nickname.

I don't know how old I was when I first saw Conan, maybe four or five. But I remember it fondly, Watching it with my dad. We rented it so it still had all the gore and what not. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. It might be responsible for forging me into who I am today, by Crom.
an updated version of the movie would be awsome

Just during different parts of my life I've thought to myself "I'm doing this because of some thing I saw on Conan"
I have long hair, that I've been growing since first grade(when the mullet was still sort of cool)
I have a tattoo that looks like my own modified version of the Atlantean sword. And I've been fascinated with swords since I was two. (The swords thing started when I began watching He-Man. And He-Man was original a line of Conan toys that was dropped when mattel saw that Conan was too gory for children.)
