Interesting lifts; some of them, like that rotating dead, seems like something I was told would kill my back. If I do that at all, I'd be very cautious.

How quaintly modern those dumb-bells are. ;) Have a look at these.

Iranian "meels". This type of training might possibly go back as far as the nomadic period:

From what I hear, it's a great combo of weight and cardio training.

Good article on exercises for "complete strenght" here.

Worth looking at just for that pic of the badass-looking dumbells.

They look like some fun lifts to try. I might throw a couple of them in on a "play" day for a bit of variation.

Thanks

They were brought to India by Persians. It goes into all that in the link.

I think that is really why I love the Kettlebell. Full body lifts and killer grip strength. Plus if you get stuck/struggle it is easy to dump.

currently on a weight / muscle gain program after losing a chunk of weight due to getting booted out by my adulotress wifer ( shame I can't drop her into a handy cesspit like in Rouges in the house). Have packed a stone on in about a month using protein and carb supplements and four days a week in the gym.
What are people's views on supplements? I've used USN anabolic stuff initially, but it's restrictively expensive and now I'm using a combination of pure whey and carb powder. Diet consists of high quality proteins ( turkey breast, nuts, pulses, teak) and loads of greens, rice.
any thoughts about supplements? advice would be appreciated. I am the ultimate 'hard gainer'. 43 and currently eleven stone which is the most I've ever weighed.
'why does he have to be a misfit? Why can't he be handsome and kind?'

'You're still a dreamer girl'.

any thoughts about supplements?

There's a mess of snake oil out there. Don't expect the store or the manufacturer to give you teh truth. You gotta do the research.

If your wife was the adultress, how is it that you got kicked out? Was it her house?

I'm not against supplements, but thing that most people count on them way too much and pretty much everyone can get great results without them.

If you need quick carbs and protein after a workout, have a peanut butter sandwich. Or a pasta and chicken salad. A baked potato with chili or tuna.

Most hardgainers don't eat as much as they think they do. Start keeping a food diary.

Second what Droc is saying here. Supplements can help you fill gaps in your nutrition — N. Europeans geenerally don't get optimal amounts of Vitamin D, for example — but quality supps are expensive and it's really best to get your nutrition from food sources. And most people don't get enough sleep . Good sleep is of huge importance to your overall well-being, especially if you are trying to build lean muscle.

I am not sure what is meant by "supplements". Obviously, multivitamins ain't gonna kill ya. Same goes for creatine, near as I can tell.

Keep your aminos topped up, too. The current "amino of the week" is glutamine, but they are all needed at one time or another.

But so many of the other pills are malarky, confusing to anyone without a biotech degree.

I am guilty of not having a healthy between-meal snack sitting on my desk (or in my belly) right now. That's probably right, the best "supplement" for a had gainer.
