That sounds too cool, CRS surprised me again. In his hands it can be near as awesome as Imaro books.

Am i the only one who wants to read pulp hero novel like that ?

So, I wrote up a post praising Imaro, and got a response from Saunders himself! Still happy, am I.

I know the feeling. Isn't it awesome? :D

(Once again, I need to get myself in gear and do that Dossouye post I've been meaning to do)

Heh i didnt know you were that big of fan and i agree completely in S&S i think he is second only to REH. I like you review it captured my admiration, respect for Imaro, his creator better than i could in words like that.

When i first read Imaro book 1 a couple of years ago i commented in CRS site telling him how awesome the book was and how important it was for me to finally have an African hero who was a great hero to adore reading.

It was something him thanking me for my words, actually talking to him like that.

I read that one last summer and enjoyed it tremendously. Currently I am in the middle of reading a biography of Shaka Zulu and there are some tremendous similarities. I am wondering if Saunders patterned Imaro on Shaka, similar to how REH patterned Conan on figures from old sagas, gunfighters and sich.

Imaro isnt simply inspired like that, Saunders site has articles he wrote about what the hero, his world is based on. Shaka and his kind are only little side of what makes Imaro and co.

Finally, I have a copy of Imaro in my hands. It is the 1981 Daw edition, ordered from a near-by book seller, in new condition. I paid a few bucks for it, but 50+ pages in, I have no regrets. I will reserve final judgment until I have read it through, but I can say right now that Charles R Saunders is now a favorite S&S author for me. I place him right up there with KEW, Keith Taylor and REH himself! If you have not yet read any of CRS's work, do yourself a favor and give it a go, you won't regret it. I will be finding more Imaro in the future, and this book has a special place reserved on my bookshelf.

Can someone tell me how to link specific blog posts from CRS' website?

Axerules told me how awhile back and I linked several times. Now, it's been so long I can't quite do it.

On the Blog list, right click on the title of the blog entry you want and "Copy Link Address". That will give you the real link to the actual page & you can paste it.

You reminded me of Damballa, i have been focusing too much on Imaro and Dossouye. You must try Dossyoue, a great female warrior based on real world 1700s,1800s army of women soldiers.

CRS is a gem for fans of S&S. He is easily my modern fav S&S, i adore him for taking REH style S&S to totally different continent, mythology, cultures.

Is that the Dahomey Amazons?

I've written about them myself in a roundabout way. The wife of the protangonist of my novella Dubaku is a Dahomey Amazon. :)

Can anyone look at the Acknowledgements of the first Imaro novel in 1981 (DAW books) and see where and when the short story "Slaves of the Giant Kings" was first published?
I cannot find this info anywhere on the net, not even on Dale Rippke's old site.

Sorry, Elegos (good to see ya back!), but my copy was ruined in the Flood. In some ways, my "Old World" was destroyed in 2012.

Still, best of luck. :)

In the 1981 DAW copy I have, it states that portions of the book had appeared in various publications, but does not say what portions in what publications. Sorry, no help from this end.

A few weeks ago, I sent an e-mail to Mr. Saunders and asked if he would be willing to sign my mint copy of Imaro, from DAW circa 1981. To my surprise, he answered back, and said he would be more than happy to. So I sent it off to him in the mail, and today I just got it back. Still mint, but now with a few words and the signature of the man himself on the first page. Super cool, with a special place on my bookshelf reserved alongside my Del Ray Howards and my Warner Kane novels by KEW. I feel pretty lucky, as CRS is one of the few masters of old school S&S still alive today. Thanks, Charles!

Thanks for the look-see, TDM. B)

Elegos, I would just join the CRS forum on his website and ask the man. He's quite gracious.

I have already asked him, but I do not have a reply yet.
