Does this story take place early in Conan's life or the later stages?

Definitely. This one:I have not been able to find the story this is based on (is it a story called Red Nails?) and I wondered if any of the Del Rey volumes contains this story.

Hi Sat. How did you find the coloring of Red Nails in the Chronicles book? I have the Special Edition reprint from the early 80s and just wondered how it compared.

In my opinion, the chronicles book was a bit superior to the special edition. The problem was that Windsor-smith had done his own coloring on the story in the Treasury Edition, and the Special Edition did not follow Smith's color scheme. While Smith also did not color the Chronicles edition, it seems to follow his scheme more closely.

Sadly, I didn't get it. Though I wanted it. But I have that special, and all the other stories in their original comics.Hi Sat. How did you find the coloring of Red Nails in the Chronicles book? I have the Special Edition reprint from the early 80s and just wondered how it compared.
I liked the new coloring, but not nearly enough to buy stories I'd already read.
But I did wistfully look through a copy in my fav store.
It was rich, but could sometimes be a little over dark and murky.
I think Korak's opinion's about the same as mine. This is still the best collected & colored version:

There is also a very cool article on the Conan: Red Nails animated movie discussing when it will be released:
Scheduled to wrap in June, Conan: Red nails will be distributed through New Line, direct to DVD - though a possible theatrical release is under consideration.
quote from Comic Buyers Guide #1615 by James Mishler
How cool would that be!?! Animated Conan on the big screen.
James went on to say:
Though a live-action movie is in the works with Warner Brothers, Swordplay Entertainment has a deal for three Conan animated feature movies, and should be ready to announce the second movie of the three with Conan properties in March.
quote from Comic Buyers Guide #1615 - James Mishler
I hope they choose Beyond the Black River as one of the adaptations!
Great news all around

As for a theatrical release - I'll be glad if I can get my hands on the DVD without too much hassle, so I'm under no illusions as far as seeing it on the big screen over here is concerned - i.e. it doesn't matter at all if it makes it to the big screen, I'll not get to see it in the cinema either way. :/

NO! That's MINE dammit!
Seriously, if they're doing three movies then they should be based on the more "epic" stories like The People of the Black Circle or basically any that involve a lot of people fighting. They probably won't do Beyond the Black River because of the lack of a female protagonist, but they may surprise us.
For some reason I'd like them to do Black Colossus. Perhaps it's the idea of hordes of Zulus, Assyrians and Egyptians clashing with Medieval Knights.
