Since we're talking Comic Book superheroes all of a sudden, I'd say Nova.

Wild Bill Clanton might give Conan a good fight. ERB'S The Mucker, too.

Hmmm interesting question, I'll have to divide it into categories...

Fictional Chracters of Print:
Conan vs. Aragorn: Outstanding battle, blade to blade. For once Conan against a purely human foe.

Conan vs. Dracula: Difficult until Conan learns about stakes and silver.

Conan vs. Arthur Pendragon: Conan in a walk.

Comicbook Opponents:
Conan vs. Batman: Tough one to call, Conan on battle wits alone. Batman would be trying NOT to kill him, Conan works under no such restriction.

Conan vs. Blade: Swordplay a plenty here. Difficult to see who's gonna win this one. They'd fight for a while but eventually go have a beer together.

Film Opponents:
Conan vs Terminator: Good fight, classic battle Conan beats original Terminator loses to second.

Conan vs. Predator: Conan wins if he survives his first brush with the technology. Just blade on blade.. Conan in a walk.

Conan vs. Aliens: Conan in a field day... just give him chain mail, Shield and 4 feet of steel.

Television Opponents:
Conan vs. Spock: Too close to call, Spock by a nose.

Conan vs. Worf: Worf, hey what can I say I'm half Klingon!

Conan vs. Tealc: Close call, if Tealc still has his symbiote, then he wins, hands down.

That's all she wrote....

An interesting treatment.

>Conan vs. Aragorn: Outstanding battle, blade to blade. For once Conan against a purely human foe.
Here's another one that would end in the nearest tavern and an exchange of war stories over ale.

>Conan vs. Arthur Pendragon: Conan in a walk.
Lancelot and Galahad were both better fighters than Arthur. Conan vs. Lancelot probably ends like Conan vs. Aragorn. Conan vs. Galahad: Conan does his darndest to kill Galahad just to shut the straight-laced prig up.

>Conan vs Terminator: Good fight, classic battle Conan beats original Terminator
REH already wrote this one; it was "The Devil in Iron".

>Conan vs. Aliens: Conan in a field day... just give him chain mail, Shield and 4 feet of steel.
Conan would certainly kill his first alien, but is in great danger from the acid blood spewing from the dismembered alien. Chainmail would be no protection. If he survived the encounter, he would put the experience to good use and switch to a long spear for subsequent battles.

I did not write the above post. Although I find nothing objectionable in the contents, I object to someone hacking into the forum and impersonating me. I have no idea why he did it, and I really have no idea how he did it. I am reporting this post to the moderators for their consideration. (I guess there's always the possibility I did it in my sleep, but I don't think so.)

Outstanding reposte. Can't say as I disagree with a single rejoinder. You're propbably right about Aragon and Conan retiring to the nearest pub for some gab and a pint. Also must agree with your take on the Aliens. The acid blood would present a problem but I figures with a 4 foot blade, chain mail and a sheild Conan would survive the initial brush with acid and learn to hack and duck.

Interesting thought about his blade disintegrating after a few kllings though... hmmm..

1- Johannes Liechtenauer- the father of german swordsmanship.

Grandmaster who lived in the 1300's that was arguably the greatest of all the Masters of defence in medival europe. his influence can be seen in other schools of sword and fight books like fiore di liberi (sp- italian swordmaster), and produced students who's techniques are still taught today (aemma, arma and Tobler's students) by those practicing european swordsmanship as a martial art and not some fake theater group or roll playing society (like the always unpopular and ridiculed SCA).

"Bruce Lee"

that wouldn't be much of a fight for conan-

outside of hollywood bruce's actual skill level is highly debated, it is obvious he had some level of skill but most come in the range that he was poor to decent.

I would like to see him fight Tom Sotis (an expert knife fighter- trains U.S. special forces, spetsnaz, and south african military in knife fighting),

Christian Tobler (never actually seen his swordsmanship first hand- I hear he is good).

or Jhon Clements.

[QUOTE]

I must respectfully disagree with the above stated quote. As an accomplished martial artist with over twenty years experience I must say that Bruce Lee was way above "poor to decent." I am basing my opinion on several different observations.

1. Footage outside of the movies. He was lighting fast and this is with no camera tricks. And he was damn powerful. There is much debate about Lee's strenght, based on his documents of his weightlifting routine. Then again people at my gym had no idea that I could bench press over 400 lbs. because for over a year I never worked out with more that 275 lbs.

2. The opinion of martial artists that actually knew him, I won't mention names, but I have spoken with two world champions who said he was exceptional.

3. Reading about his training reginment, he was obsessive about his training. Anyone who trained as hard as he did would be good. At least one period in his life, he worked out 18 hours a day.

4. Accounts of him actually fighting by witnesses. I remember reading about a fight at a movie set were another martial artist challeged him (the opponent was big, strong, and very good) and Lee destroyed him. Appearantly, his guy had been calling Lee out over the course of a few days. The guy eventually provoked Lee physically and was beaten to as bloodly pulp.

5. The fact that he was always evolving as a martial artist. He cross trained before the term existed. Unlike most martial artists at the time and many today, he did not think his style was the best. He was always looking to improve.

I'm of the opinion that many of the martial artists that downgrade Lee couldn't carry his jockstrap. Most are armchair champions that have never beaten anyone outside the dojo.

Its easy to elevate or degrade someone that has been dead for 30 yrs. All that one can do today is talk to people that knew him, research documents, and watch footage; then come to one's own opinion.

Anyways, Bruce Lee vs. Conan, the winner would definately be... <_<

Hello Blacksagelobo,
I agree with you whole heartedly about Bruce Lee. I have been a fan of his since the '70s, and from what I have read and heard about him, both on and off stage, is that as you said, he was lightning fast and extremely deadly.
As far as a fight between Bruce Lee and Conan goes, it would be a good fight is all I have to say. But I think Bruce Lee would win.

In People of the Black Circle, REH actually describes a brief fight between Conan and an eastern martial artist (REH's 1930's conception thereof).
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Interesting concept. I think Bruce Lee could hold his own in contest of weapons. If Bruce were armed with anything from a Han Bo up, he'd be able to hang with Conan for a while but in the end I'd fear he'd lose the ultimate prize, his life.

Bottom line is this, Conan is practiced in one art and one art alone, killing people. Not points, not punch counts, not knockouts, not varied fighting styles.... no Conan is after only one thing and that's separating Bruce from his life essence in a quick and efficient manner possible. Conan has killed hundreds, mayhaps thousands of men, seasoned warriors all, and untold wizards and beasts, he know's how to kill, did Bruce Lee? Mayhaps. I know this a "hypothetical to end all hypotheticals" so I'm boiling it down to its barest elements...

Martial Artist vs. Slayer of Men. I take slayer of men in the end.

his true match in every way would be conan's (co) twin brother - NANOC (nan) !
-
they were only 4 yrs old when co 'accidently' pushed nan down an old, bottomless mineshaft.
but since his body was never found -
he could be 'used' in a future co book - eh ?!
-
any body know what happened to co's younger sister who was kidnapped by picts + never seen again ?!
-
as much as i like the 'legend' of conan -
i must say that bruce lee is my GREATEST FIGHTING HERO of all time - because he was REAL !
he could do all those amazing things for real !
+ he does not need a weapon of steel !
expert martial warriors (budoka + others ) are astounding !
sorry conan, but u must remain in pure fantasy - - -
-
now, where did i put my black belt - * * *

Some say that Conan's lost twin, Nanoc, was kidnapped by slavers as a child, sold to a gristmill, and later to a gladiatorial promoter.
