She was a tourist and had crossed a crazy dude who cjopped her head off. It was headline news here in europe. Just some nutter though.

I love your weapons, I also used to do re enactments with the Numenor club (JRRT) here in Ireland on the hills, and in some casltes. We used weapons with padding added, just incase! And bows with Ping Pong balls and sponge on the top of arrows lol, just incase. ;)

Have you any pictures of your stuff in use?

lol loved the wife bit, I too did the same m8 and now have a hall full of pics of stuff I want to put up....CONAN! :)

Hello all,
I have not posted a pic or anything in some time so I figured I would post a pic of my collection. It is nothing fancy or extremely expensive. Other than three or four fantasy pieces it mostly came from MRL. My katana is not in it. it is standing in an upright stand next to my bed, along with an Uberti copy of a Colt .45 SAA. Just thought I would share this with everyone.

He seems to specialize in real weapons.

I would like to have a Conan sword. But all these "official" Conan swords, father's sword etc, that I have seen are expensive. Plus, I am retired now with a ltd fixed income and just can't afford to spend on stuff anymore.

Where would you put a Conan sword-like object? It wouldn't fit in with your collection of genuine swords.

Hello Ironhand,
Yep, most of mine are "real", fully tempered, hardened steel. But if you look at the rack the top three are wallhangers, cheap flea market junk. Some people like those fantasy swords, I don't. While razer sharp, they are still made of cheap crap and coulnd not hold up in real combat. But they were gifts, so....!

A friend has MRL's "Shrewsbury Sword", a simple or typical one handed medieval sword with like a 32-3 inch blade. In one of the Conan stories, that sword is in my mind just what Conan was carrying. It might have been the one where he was wearing red silk pants and whit shirt running from the law down a pier or dock after killing a judge or lawyer in court. He then jumped aboard ship and took off. Forgot the rest.

Or in other words, when REH describes Conan as toting a two or one handed straight sword, I picture typical medieval swords, not those monstrosities on the movies! Personally, I still prefer a light curved sword like a shamshir, a sabre, etc..

is that an assegai FB?

"Assegai" is a Portuguese word that got used for the short Zulu stabbing spear. MRL chose to go with "Ixwla,"(there are many spellings), the Zulu word for it. Interestingly, it is believed to be an onomotopaic word imitating the sound of the broad blade as it is withdrawn from the enemy's viscera. Beat that for a weapon name!

The Portuguese word azagaia, as well as the French sagaie (Old French: harsegaye / azagaie / azagaye) come from the Arabic az-zagaya, based on the Berber word: zagaya.

interesting axe, appreciate that.

now i feel like digging out The Washing of the Spears.

Which axe are you referring to? The smaller spiked one is from MRL and is more or less just like the one the "Spaniard" used to pin that gladiator hero from Gaul's foot to the ground in the arena. The big double one is from Hanwei. A nice, well made solid axe but to me the handle is about 8" too short. It just feels unwieldy due to the short handle to me. It would be perfect just a few inches longer.

Freebie I meant Axerules! It was interesting to see the history behind the word assegai.

but speaking of axes I'd like to see what those dalcassian axes look like Howard was always giving to Turlogh.

If you still want a brit. I might be able to help,my mom deals in Brit. china and goes over about every 3-6 months.
Last time I was in UK I passed on an officers uniform with boots and hat for about 100 US.
Even had the sam brown too. Still mad at myself..

- A long bow and a strong bow, and let the sky grow dark!
The cord to the nock, the shaft to the ear, and the king of
Koth for a mark -
- I remember, The dark woods, masking slopes of sombre
hills;
The grey clouds' leaden everlasting arch;
The dusky streams that flowed without a sound,
And the lone winds that whispered down the passes. -
(Cimmeria, REH)

John Lundemo of Odin Blades makes this. He is coming out with a semi production series called the Longship Line. I believe that this is one of those pieces.

In keeping with a previous conversation, this is an example of a Thracian sica. Thought to be a traditional weapon for this ethnic culture.

I thought that looked like John's work. He's making a sword for me right now.
Yes, that's one common pattern of the sica, the one with the downcurving sharp edge, like a falcata or yataghan. Others were upswept and sharp on the convex side, like a saber. There were many Thracian tribes with differing weapons and customs. I recommend "The Gods of Battle: the Thracians at war, 1500 BC - AD 150" by Chris Webber.
