Tor announced a new edition of the first two Deathstalker novels in one trade paperback last year but, as far as I know, it's never been released... :(

I read the first and really enjoyed it. I have all four.

They aren't in print. The TOR reprint(s) never materialized. But, you might be able to find them through eBay or abebooks.com

I think there's a series of 4 novels, from what I dug up when doing a search.

I checked Amazon, and it looked like they're out of print. Strangely, there seems to be another book on Amazon, and as far as I can tell it's in print. I think it's a compiled version of all the other books. It might be worth checking out...If you can find it...

There's a used bookstore across town from me that has all of the Deathdealer books and I intend to pick them up eventually.

Those were a fantastic series of books! I kinda felt that the last one - "Plague Of Knives" - 'ended' the series a bit prematurely and anticlimactically though. It NEEDS to be continued! If Mr. Silke should be out there, lurking somewhere, all I can say is "BRING BACK GATH OF BAAL!!!".

Well, Swiftsteel there was actually one book after Plague of Knives, it was the 5th book, but for some reason or another it never saw print. There was a thread about it some time ago. That's where I got the info from.

The 'fifth' book was a reprint of the earlier book(s). I think they planned to combine the first two in an omnibus or something.

One thing I was wondering - on the Wandering Star REH poster book (it's like a calendar) one of the artists was "James Silke". I'm wondering if it is the same person...

I have an interview with Frazetta where he admits to being upset with the direction that Verotik took with the character.
although I have to admit that I do enjoy the artwork in those issues.

I was at FallCon a few years ago and got a huge stack of Verotik comics for $20. It had a few different characters like Death Dealer, Jaguar God, GOTH, and Igrat. I hated every single issue, The characters were all sadists who did nothing but rape and torture people.

Well it's true, there's no accounting for taste these days...

The Death Dealer books are a fun read. Not very serious though. Gath as a character is better when you know less about him. I liked the gypsy element of the Grillards in the story, though, Brown Johns' pontificating about the stage, the show and the story crap wore thin. The visual quality of the writing is what I liked best. Silke's descriptive ability is offbeat but very accurate as well as humorous in away. There is an early quote where he's describing some antagonists in the story, "Occasionally they glittered metallically; otherwise they were shaggy, the colour of dirt when it is in the mood to be filthy. All of which meant they looked their best, like a tarantula with it's hair combed." I like it.
- A long bow and a strong bow, and let the sky grow dark!
The cord to the nock, the shaft to the ear, and the king of
Koth for a mark -
- I remember, The dark woods, masking slopes of sombre
hills;
The grey clouds' leaden everlasting arch;
The dusky streams that flowed without a sound,
And the lone winds that whispered down the passes. -
(Cimmeria, REH)
- Every hour harms, it's the last one that kills -
