This was the book that was given away at the World Fantasy Convention. It contains a variety of fictional tributes to REH written by various Texan writers. I don't have a list of the stories available - hopefully someone can add that part.

Hi all, does anybody know anything about this book or has read it. I contacted a seller for a list of stories, but only received the rather vague, "it's stories about ReH himself and his (unknown) characters" Any info would be appreciated.
Hey red nails, there is a copy for sale on eBay right now--pretty cheap at 16 bucks. Just go to eBay and type in "Cross Plains" and it'll take you there.

has anyone read this yet?
Sorry, i think i posted this in the wrong spot.
I read it. To me, it's kind of uneven. Some folks clearly larking doing an REH story, some trying to do their own thing with a broad REH concept, some clearly DON'T like REH, and wrote their stories accordingly.
Overall, I thought it was interesting, but am in no hurry to read it again.

I knew that the cover artist for "CPU" was riffing off an earlier painting. Check out this link and scroll down to "Native American":

The artist above basically reversed the angle. Anyone who can tell me the artist on the sacredtexts archive page gets a big "thank you".

It looks like the original was actually a photo by Edward S. Curtis.

Brajah! Thanks for going to the trouble, but you looked up the wrong pic. The one I'm talking about is in the box next to "Native American". Stop right there. DON'T click the "Native American" link. Check out the small pic to the left of "Native American". Look at the pose with the warrior offering up the bison skull. Compare to the CPU cover. Basically, the CPU artist just switched it to a frontal view and put an Underwood in the warrior's hands.
I've got a book on Curtis' incredible life and career. I think it's likely that Curtis' "Spirit" photo inspired the unknown artist in the little pic and then he in turn inspired the CPU artist.
