GRRMartin says "When I walked onto the set it was as if I walked into one of my dreams. It's exactly as I visualized it."

I could cry.

We can only hope that someday, an REH scholar's going to walk onto the set of a proper Conan film with those sentiments.

Good for Martin, though. If this series is successful, it's yet more proof that fidelity to the source material can translate into moolah.

HERE

Michelle Fairley: "It's not so much fantasy. It's really gutsy and glorious. We just happen to be wearing costumes and armor."

Oh boy does that comment make me angry.

I don't get HBO; I hope it eventually ends up on DVD. I will pay whatever it costs, using the money I save by waiting for the new Conan DVD to drain into the bargain bin.
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to get HBO?

Wow, that is not how I pictured Drogo at all. Still interesting, though.

Think this'd be worth posting at Conan Movie Blog, seeing as it's Momo?

Expect a lot more that in the reviews. "Oh, this isn't really fantasy - it's more about character, plot and theme than any of that."

Eh, actors and critics: who cares what they think?
"It is more than a mortal sea. Your hands are red with blood and you follow a red sea-path, yet the fault is not wholly with you. Almighty God, when will the reign of blood cease?"

Turlogh shook his head. "Not so long as the race lasts."

Obviously, fantasy must be guys in tutus with gossamer wings, but no guts or glory

Or, alternatively, barbarians in fur speedos, without a shred of armor. :P

By the way, dear members, this thread is dedicated to the HBO series. I've moved several messages posted this week where they belong, that is the topic about G.R.R. Martin's books. Here is a link: http://www.conan.com...&hl=song&st=120

That throne looks painful. Make a wrong move and you'll slice your ear off. :P

HBO is throwing out a bunch of character profiles and features on the contending noble houses of Westeros. Here's House Stark.

If only REH could get this kind of respectful treatment...

That's the point, actually. The Iron Throne is as much a danger to one who sits in it as one who tries to take it.

My husband read these novels and loves them. I am looking forward to seeing this and I am happy to see Jason Momoa in this! But that may change after I read the novels.

I need to start saving now to buy the undoubtably expensive multi-disc series of DVD's.
