Here we go:

Q: In other threads, the subject of the Age of Conan novels has been brought up a few times. I'm wondering what, if anything, is being done with this line. Will it continue as is (trilogies)? Will it take a new direction (smaller, stand-alone books, maybe)? Or is it DOA?

A: We are planning for a new push in the publishing program, including new AoC books to be developed in sync with MMO updates and game expansions. Whether it be trilogies or stand-alones is a future question.

I'd like to see ol' Vincent Darlage, writer of several of the Mongoose publications for the pen and paper RPG have a go at one of these. It's probably just a fantasy, but I'd also like to see George R.R. Martin take a swipe.. I'll bet he'd be expensive as hell to get to write, but think of the marketing opportunity it would be to have him write one, and expose Conan and AoC to his whole audience with his writing talent. That may well be worth the price to get ahold of that audience.

I would just like to expand on that by adding that there's already a lot of unhappiness being expressed on the blogs about the prospect of Mr. Ratner directing "Conan", so if he is indeed going to be the director, what specifically went into the decision to hire him? Did he demonstate that he was knowledgeble and passionate about the source material? Was there something about the directorial style in his prior films that convinced Mr. Malberg that he was right for the part?

Money and muscle, that's what I want; to be able to do any damned thing I want and get away with it. Money won't do that altogether, because if a man is a weakling, all the money in the world won't enable him to soak an enemy himself; on the other hand, unless he has money he may not be able to get away with it.

Current "news" (rumors) suggests that he has yet to sign. From CPI's point of view, it may still be premature.

 YES! What he said... please - some insight!
"Their present king is the most renowned warrior among the western nations. He is an outlander, an adventurer who seized the crown by force during a time of civil strife, strangling King Namedides with his own hands, upon the very throne. His name is Conan, and no man can stand before him in battle." ~ Orastes, 'The Hour Of The Dragon'

Millennium Films, the studio and movie license holder, is in discussions with Brett Ratner. That's all that is official at this moment.

One last 'movie' question; is Mr. Malmberg still the boss on this project?

In such big projects as a movie production there is no one boss. Fred Malmberg is one of the producers of the movie along with Millennium Films' Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta. Fred is closely involved in the creative aspects of the movie.

Hello Jay!

How soon can we expect to see a sequel to the Conan THQ console game?

How did the game sell?

THQ has the option for a movie-based console game. If they decide to excercise the option we would see a game around a year, year-and-a-half thereafter. The first game had mid-range sales, cannot go into more details than that.

Thanks for the quick reply Jay - appreciate it! I think THQ did a really good job with the game. A sequel - with obvious updating - would be great. B)

Sorry, but a sequel game to the 2007 title isn't going to happen. This from Wikipedia...

"Despite the generally favorable reviews and commercial success of the Conan franchise, Conan sold poorly and was a financial loss for THQ."

Se we have had the so-poor-not-released-in-the-US 2004 Conan game, and a PS3/Xbox 360 game that was a clone of God Of War franchise. Doesn't look like our favourite barbarian will be returning to the action genre any time soon, unfortunately. :(

I'm afraid we cannot comment on the authenticity of the supposed script and the review of it.

A night's sleep improved my outlook.
Since the writers are still under contract, CPI may or may not be required to use some of their work. Just speculating.

Let this comfort you: this is a rejected script.

I understand and am grateful that fans are eager to hear as much as possible about the development of the movie. But how many other movie productions can you honestly say are as transparent for all to see, as you seem to expect from this particular production? Derketo knows how many hours I myself spent scavenging the web for any info about the production of the Lord of the Rings movies. Lots of rumours, not much concrete stuff. Most Hollywood productions are close to airtight, as they should, until at least the later stages of production.

There is no added secrecy at all in the development of the Conan movie - this is how things are with all movies. We're in development, not even production, so there is not much to say yet. Official information will be posted when the time is right. Or you could don ninja wear and sneak into our offices to eavesdrop...
