BTW, all responses are polite. Not all questions or comments are, though.

- I won't apologise for the passion and care I have for Robert E Howard's creations and their handling, but I will say sorry if I did come across rude whilst delivering those words. Sorry!

Thank-you.

Accepted. Danny, don't get me wrong. I have just as much passion about Conan as anyone else here. Just because I'm not known on the internet circuit doesn't make me any less knowledgeable.

Trust me, there's lots that I'd like to see done here, too. In fact there are a couple of behind the scenes projects that I've been pushing for a while -- and at least one initiative that Kane & I have been tossing around and should be in place before long.

I've stated before that I'm only a part of this web-site -- albeit a more visible part, since I've apparently become the unofficial Point of Contact for CPI. So be it -- though a paycheck would be nice... ;)

I have no problem passing along suggestions and ideas to the Powers That Be -- that's what this thread is for. But, I think you would agree that someone will receive better results being proactive, rather than posting something like "I just read that Conan has a long lost brother. What's wrong with CPI? This site sucks!"

I can't control the content of Conan.com beyond this Forum, but I can certainly pass along all concerns and, in turn, supply answers, whether they are agreeable to everyone concerned or not.

I'm here to help as much as I can. I'm very approachable and open to suggestions. However, I only ask for the same courtesy that I would extend to any other member of this forum, and to understand that I don't make the big decisions.

Castellon has extensive Moderator experience and is here to help, as is Kane. I never met Kane before becoming Admin here. But, he quickly impressed me with his evenhandedness back when the inmates ruled the roost for a short period of time. That, and his firm knowledge of Conan and the Conan community made my task simple when I needed another Mod.

Anyway, I've said my piece.

Cheers,
LD

Hi LD.
Thanks for the reply.

I'll keep this short, as I realise that I shouldn't really be casually posting
in this specifically dedicated area.

I'm sorry if I inadvertently struck a nerve with my recent post(s). I harboured no serious intention to ridecule either the fans or the moderators personal efforts there, as on both counts you all generally do an admirable job! My pointed comments and growing frustrations here, are levelled elsewhere.

Cheers.
All the best, Danny.

Danny,

You didn't strike any particular nerve. However, I thought it was a good time to reaffirm that Kane, Castellon and myself try to be as proactive as possible dealing with questions, suggestions and complaints. That's a sight better than being totally detached and dormant. :)

Anyway, I have a response from Theo Bergquist regarding the News segment on the splash page of the Conan site.

"... our policy is not to make any formal announcements until things are up and running and we can show some stuff on the screen. Just because we make a deal or two we don't want that to be public until we have something to show."

In other words the News section is strictly for announcements, and doesn't deal with daily news or rumours.

However, if there is any interest, I can create an unofficial Conan News & Rumours thread and pin it in the General Discussions area. That way anyone with info and/or links can post to it so we can all share.

I say no to a Conan News & Rumors thread. That is, I say no to the Rumors part of it. If anything, I want strictly Conan News! Opening this board to the rumor mill can only mean trouble. Lo'd knows I've been through that waaaaay too much on other boards I belong to. Only the facts, ma'am...uh, sir. Please.

Fair enough, but until an item is confirmed by CPI it could be interpreted as rumour, could it not? :) Anyway, I'm just trying to come up with an alternative and testing the waters with it. I suppose it could be labelled 'Conan News', but there would have to be the understanding that any off-site reports would be unsubstantiated until they become official on this site.

- A standard response, and largely to Tarib's question.
Can I now please get an answer(s) to my original query?

- IMHO. No Thanks to this LD, It would be nice just to have substantiated facts, on time, and direct from the nag's (PE's) mouth here, instead of mainly having to rely on such rumours, and fan's personal imput first.

Sincerely, Danny.

A question to PE/CPI.

Do any of the managerial representatives of Paradox Entertainment/CPI have plans to be present at any of the "Cross Plain Texas, Robert E Howard celebration days" in the near future, or even the big gathering in 2006? To be able to directly mingle with and talk to the fans, and the subscribers of their Licencee's products.

Cheers, Danny.

Conan News thread would definitely be a good idea.

Anything on the comics front, I can be relied on to be all over that for posting art & links! :D

Now for a question/suggestion:
Is there any interest in a truly REH-faithful new TV series?

With the huge success of the LORD OF THE RINGS movies and the various fantasy mega-series books, is it possible for CPI to approach TV pros, such as for example director Rob Bowman and producer David Nutter (X-FILES, both) -- or whoever, as long as they're proven able in doing dramatic moody action, and *respect* REH's vision -- to develop a pitch for a new but true to REH's stories & style CONAN tv series?

Perhaps the pitch phrasing could be simplified to:
X-FILES meets Clint Eastwood HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER meets LORD OF THE RINGS? :)

The new movie -- if it ever gets made -- will be John Millus' Conan. Not REH's. And it's just 1 movie.

A weekly live-action TV series adapting REH's stories (and maybe the best of the comics, old & new) would get the attention of far more of a potential audience for CONAN, in the long run.

I would love to see a REH based TV series of Conan.

However, if it were to be a proper rendition of Howard's world I feel that the best place to show it would be on cable ie; HBO or Showtime.

The degree of violence, bloodshed and nudity that would be needed to achive a degree of accuracy precludes it being shown on regular commercial television.

Theo Berquist of Conan Properties Inc. has provided me with answers to your most recent questions/suggestions.

[list]
1). Rumor has it that there are plans for three feature length animated Conan direct to video films (source: Creative Screenwriting magazine volume 10 # 5 (sept./oct 2003 issue). Can this be confirmed by CPI?

CPI/ Yes, we can confirm that.

2). Why can't you, Paradox Entertainment/ CPI, a commercial body, pay an employee to keep us fans, the potential buyers and target audience of your Licencee's products, informed of the merchandise promptly and directly; instead of , it seems, mainly relying on un-paid enthusiasts to undertake the research/legwork and advertise for you? Of course, please set me straight if I'm on the wrong track here, but I find it hard to understand how fans, not employees, can find and divulge such information before the parent-company can?

Sincerly yours,
A disgruntled fan and purchaser, Danny.

Theo/ We have dedicated staff to handle the website, but of course we can be better. Right now we have so many new and exiting partners onboard that we are doing our best to sync releases and previews. Of course, we do know everything that happens, but sometimes the licensees want to be first out with the news, and sometimes they do not wish for us to reveal what?s going on until they have something to show. A general rule we have is to show as little as possible until we have a real body to work with. We will listen to our fans and try to improve, the message is clear.

3). Do any of the managerial representatives of Paradox Entertainment/CPI have plans to be present at any of the Cross Plain Texas, Robert E Howard celebration days in the near future, or even the big gathering in 2006? To be able to directly mingle with and talk to the fans, and the subscribers of their Licencee's products.

Theo/ Yes we have such plans and we would definitly try to make it for 2006, if not before.

4). Is there any interest in a truly REH-faithful new TV series? With the huge success of the LORD OF THE RINGS movies and the various fantasy mega-series books, is it possible for CPI to approach TV pros, such as for example director Rob Bowman and producer David Nutter (X-FILES, both) -- or whoever, as long as they're proven able in doing dramatic moody action, and *respect* REH's vision -- to develop a pitch for a new
but true to REH's stories & style CONAN tv series?

Theo/ Right now we have no plans for a TV series, but it is in our overall strategy to do so in the future. When we do, it will definitly be true to Howard, like most of the things going forward.

I was just wondering if this questioned could be answered here. With the new Dark Horse Conan comic soon to be in full stride, I wanted to know what 'chronology' KB and the gang were going to use. My personal opinion prefers Dale Rippke's or Joe Marek's. It seems that I've read somewhere that they are placing REH's "The God in the Bowl" right after "Frost Giant", which would be the Dale Rippke version, which seems to be the most 'accurate'.

Just an off the wall thought right now, but with Dark Horse now involved with Conan, is there any chance that in the future we can get a film true to REH's vision and not the Milius disaster? Dark Horse's HELLBOY will soon be brought to the screen, so my thinking is that just maybe there could be the Howard Conan brought to the screen. Just something to mull over.

If riddenhouse are going to use any of these images, will i get a credit that it is from the collection of eddie sizemore? If you can't use them there, can you use some of them on the website to create a gallery of some sort, just wanted to make sure that you all get your moneys worth.

Hail Theo, Crom + all the other gods of paradox + cpi, etc.
-
i've just realised how u can make this site FAR BETTER FOR ALL CONAN FANS !
-
just CHANGE the site into 'The Officially ENDORSED website' !
so u could run this site under a different company name.
this way para + cpi would NOT BE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING POSTED / UPLOADED HERE BY ANY FANS !
-
+ we fans could have lots more FUN !
which we deserve !
WE COULD -
post our own fan-fiction stories + poems -
upload our fan-art + other conan art + pics to create the FINEST collection in all hyboria ! -
+ much more - - - !
-
u could still do all u do now -
posting news, products + q+a , etc. -
but u would never be under any legal pressure or worries from this website ! !
-
+ your fans would be delighted !
-
so come on !
u know it makes sense !
kick 'the intelectual properties' into the river styx + let's all relax + have a lot more FUN !
-
Please ENDORSE this idea ?
-

:) hi celt- ! glad u like my pics. ( i edited the latest 2 pic animated gif myself ! )
-
THIS IS HOW TO ADD A SMALL PIC INTO YOUR SIGNATURE -
-
1- 1st u must find a SMALL pic which exists on any website ( or upload your own pic to a website ).
-
2- r-c (= right-click with right mouse button) on the chosen pic to open a small menu.
sel (= select with left mouse button) properties.
find the 'address URL' (web address) of pic.
copy this url carefully + sel 'ok'.
-
3- goto edit sig (signature) in conan.com.
clik mouse cursor into the sig text area + sel [ IMG ] button (its just under 'font box' ) to open a small url box.
carefully paste (or type) the url of your pic into this box + sel ok.
check that the url has appeared in the sig text area !
( u can add any text in here as usual )
-
4- now sel [ update my sig ] button + check that all looks ok ?
-
so now u can all brighten up any sig + change your sig pic every month or so - - - as i do.
-
kisses from an artistic witch ? * * * :D

TwZtdJuGGalo - I would suggest you address your Dark Horse chronology question to Kurt or another representative of Dark Horse Comics. I'm sure Theo's answer would amount to the same advice. If you run into a blank wall, send me a PM and I'll see what I can find out.

For your second question, I have to quote a section from the very first post in this thread: "Just one proviso - do not ask questions about any future Conan movie. ... all questions on that issue should be addressed to Warner." CPI has no control over the creative direction of any future Conan film. You know how Hollywood is. :)

dark crom - I have an answer for you. I'll send it by private message.

Miss Buxom - You a seductive lawyer or something? I doubt very much that will be possible -- but I'll ask. :) Anyway, you already have Conan.no, which kicks major barbarian ass, IMHO.

Just a note on the use of graphics in signatures. If you wish to do so, please keep the following forum rule in mind:

Signatures: Many people still surf the internet using dial up ISPs. For that reason there is a restriction on the size of signatures and images in them.

* Any image used in a Signature should not be more than 25k in size.
* The signature space used should be no more than 10 lines (including lines of spaces) at the default Font size when viewed at 1152 x 864.

Please abide by those pararmeters.

Thanks,
LD
