I was able to check out director Michael Bassett's DVD of DEATHWATCH and I believe with the right backing and crew - an excellent Solomon Kane film can be made. In fact, I could see him do a Bran Mak Morn film as well.

Thanks - this is the stuff we show for the public. It captures the wide array of weapons we use while still keeping our best stuff close to our vest for the paying gigs :)

I also worked on the Hunted training Benicio Del Toro/Tommy Lee Jones, and on George Clooney's film, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind prepping actor Sam Rockwell for his scene (although we didn't do the choreography on that besides the knife reveal and the tie choke).

Our group has high level experts in just about every martial art that's out there.

It's on-topic. ;) Pretty good find for a newbie. I think that this surfaced on IMDB. I don't know about the origin story, but what are you gonna do?

Thanks for posting that link! I really like the the concepts the director is working with and it sounds like the bckground and action will be great to watch.
To bad, imo, that it is totally the wrong direction to take for Solomon Kane.

With the public enjoying the LotR films, 300, and the PotC films, Bassett is in the position to create a completely new character and franchise if he would just take the next step.
Everything he talked about in that blog sounds exactly like the kind of film of I'd love to see if he was using it to start off a series of films that were a pirate/fantasy/historical take on Clint Eastwood's "Man With No Name" westerns.
However, it is exactly, imo, the wrong way to go about starting a Solomon Kane film. With SK we have an established character with hints into his background and the life he's led prior to his first apperance on the page.

Instead he, meaning Bassett, should have started his script using one of the original stories and padded it with flashbacks of the events leading Kane to be in the story and how he came to be an avenging hero.
"I vanquished Law once, I'll conquer yet again--
And force upon Mankind the Freedom he fears--
And dead gods I will again defy?"

Looks like the director knows what he's doing :)

I'd like to see how Kane changes from an adventurer into a Puritan hand-of-God :)

Well, Origin story aside, he does give attention to detail, although I did email him about the color of the scarf.... I swear he'll have me on a block list by the time this is done...lol.

His origin story seems to take the "Bad guy is seeking redemption for his sins" approach. I guess in Hollywood you do have to compromise a bit, hopefully, it won't detract too much.

Although I have to admit I did imagine Kane fanatisicm was born out of some delusions, border line nut job. Seeing "god" for example... Although Basset's approach is a little different. I figured Kane went nuts during his torture in Spain and began his extreme character traits there... but that's just my take on it. Everyone has their own.

South Broward... Pembroke pines.

Oh and Bassett sent me an email about some little details about Kane's costume that I pointed out were off in his blog's promo art. He was spot on regarding the details and exlpained why he had to make the minor detail changes. I gotta admit, he seems to know the character well.

My brother used to live in Pembroke Pines. I'm down there every now and then on business.

Gotta tell you, though, I'm not really looking forward to this film. Kane battling against evil to save his soul, which is owned by the Devil?

Can't buy it. They should just call it 'Solomon Cliche.'

hhmmm....Solomon possesed by the Devil??? what the f ... ??

Afff...really, SK is my favourite character, never read a book/comic that I loved so much, for 6 years I look for all about SK, and I feel very excited for this film.
In my oppinion SK is a very human character, because he does what he wants, totally blindened by his faith in God.He?s an obssesive man, like Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights) he kills, he fights...he satisfies himself beeing the hand of God
I like the history where he goes in a road and find a witch?s house heheheh...I could imagine real puritans seeking for witches!
I like Conan, but for me SK is so much nicer!!! he?s very human... really, no man could never be master of "all" like Conan...is too much fantasy! I like it, but for me SK kane has more the psychological aspect and more reality

Reading SK histories, I just think about those men for example Cortez, conquering extreme south America. I saw a documentary about him, the adventures, the fights, murder...I just think that they thought were doing all in God?s name.
There was a real pirate that was a puritan (cant remember his name <_< )

So, the director must do all for this character seems like a real puritan/adventure man. I wont like to see too much "fantasy" - devil himself taking control of SK soul???. Well...just my opinion

I enjoy this video posted here, and hope the director doesnt make too much changes...but he read the book!! that?s good news!! he seems to enjoy SK

Greetings!

OK, let's pitch a Soloman Kane movie to the exec's who *might* want to do,invest alot of money, promote, etc, etc, remember this Follywood,..
You&me: We want to propose a Salomon Kane movie

Ex1:King Soloman's mines?
Us: er,no,...

Ex2:A remake? Brilliant!Call my broker,...

Us:not really,...
Ex3: than what then?

Us:Solomon Kane, from the creator of Conan,...
Ex1:Wasn't Arnie re-elected?
Ex2:He'll do,my p's knows his p's!
Ex3: What a minute!Arnie is making a comback?Not just a voice over?You mean an honest to God,...

Us:,er,no(again) it is another character from Robert E.,....

Ex2:Who?
Ex1:Who cares,...
Us: well it's a heck of a story,...
Ex3:spill it kid,....

Us: we give the spiel, then then the *next* question,...who the hell is he,from where, for what? You got to do one thing,EXPLAIN to the non-fan who the hell the guy is,why is he doing what he is doing, and why is he doing it,.......in films it not just the fans but the -maybe- fans and the general public, for an explination on the last, see Blazing Saddles :P

That should do it,.....I hope,...

Tu
