STORY
This tale of high adventure is set in the Hyborian Age (c. 10,000 B.C.). The Cimmerian barbarian Conan, after siring a love child with some The Daughter of the Snows, serves as a warrior in the forces of the Aquilonian army under the command of a tribune named Gaius Metallus. Conan needs to bring back "the jewels of an Empire" to The Daughter of the Snows if he ever wants to see his new son.
After serving in the Aquilonian army for some time (and winning the respect of Metallus), Conan returns to The Daughter of the Snows, hands over to her the aforementioned jewels, and promptly leaves with his young son whom he names Kon.
Now a single dad, Conan takes young Kon under his wing as he continues to fight for the "civilized" Aquilonians. Metallus soon offers Conan (on behalf of the Emperor) a deal too good to be true. Conan is named the king of Zingara; in return, the Emperor keeps his son. Kon will be educated in the ways of warfare, philosophy, and "civilization." Conan agrees; father and son remain separated for over a decade.
During that time, King Conan grows paunchy and bored. He forgets what it means to be a man and a barbarian warlord. Meanwhile, Kon attends the imperial warrior academy where the Emperor's young son, Fortunas, becomes the bane of his existence. Since Fortunas is untouchable, Kon keeps quiet and learns how to take a beating. He grows meaner and tougher over time. Years later, Conan gets himself into trouble with the Aquilonians. He's made peace with Orlock Mac Morn and the Picts. This bold move was a big mistake in the eyes of the new Emperor... Fortunas.
Fortunas visits Conan, bringing with him some of his finest troops including Kon, now a grown man. When assassination attempts against Conan fail, Fortunas decides to settle his hash the old fashioned way: army to army. Now on the run, Conan forms his own army of warriors ("citizen soldiers" if you will) with Kon by his side and his new allies the Picts in tow. Conan and his troops square off against Fortunas and his best soldiers to determine who will rule Zingara.

"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

King Conan: Crown of Iron Lives Source: ComingSoon.net Friday, October 10, 2003
According to ComingSoon.net, writer/director John Milius definitely plans to go forward with King Conan: Crown of Iron without the newly-elected California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"This could be John's best script ever," says a source about the Conan the Barbarian follow-up. There's a challenging Conan role and it contains five significant female roles.
Someone close to the project says there will be advantages about going with another actor. It'll be cheaper to make, no studio interference, it'll be possible to shoot in exotic locales for which Arnold wouldn't get insurance from the studio, and less CGI.
Must fare and fade and fall.
I am the Dark Barbarian
That towers over all.

from the Outer Dark"

Ironhand, that was the funniest thing I've read in quite awhile. When I read the quote above, I had a mouth full of hot pizza. Now I've got to figure out a way to get the tomato sauce out from between the screen and the monitor case. Outstanding!

There is only 1 of the 4 possible outcomes that spells disaster.
If it is great than that is wonderful and all is right with the world.
If it is okay, than it was a nice time waster and I like movies on the subject.
If it is bad, well this is the fly in the ointment.
if it is really bad then it becomes a comedy and is good for a laugh.

Instead it looks as if the movie will be a cross between the Frost Giant's Daughter and....well I don't know. Something Milas dreamed up after a heavy meal..

What if they could do with Conan like they did with the Batman franchise?
I.E., have a different person take a crack at playing the Cimmerian in a series of movies.
Granted, some of the Batman movies bombed (including one with Arnold in it) but some had success. And there are inherent problems; everyone would require a bit of sword training, everyone would have to be in shape (no rubber suits in this one) etc, but the one benefit I could see of it would be that they could bounce around the chronology, instead of sticking to the timeline (like the original REH books) and they wouldn't have to worry about the lead bailing out if they become successful.
The one thing both the film makers and the core audience would have to accept is these would probably not be big-budget affairs. Maybe falling into the realm of B-grade movies.
Just a thought.
Also, anyone else have trouble accessing the boards the last couple of days?
