Hello all,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the launch of a new website today featuring a gallery of art that pays homage to the world of Hyboria. Over the last few months, I?ve solicited a few dozen artists to illustrate images set in the world of Hyboria. I?ve received several of these commissions back, and am happy to say that these are some of the best illustrations set in Hyboria I?ve ever seen. I hope you?ll agree.

The goal of the project will be to collect 12-20 images/year, one every few weeks or so, from artists and post them in the gallery for everyone to enjoy. In the end, we?ll hopefully have hundreds of images paying tribute to Howard and his lush and rich world of Hyboria.

To celebrate the launch of the site, I?m releasing 5 new images this week, one per day, before I settle in with the normal schedule of a new image every few weeks. You?ll want to check back every day this week to read the write up on each artist, and view the image that they have contributed.

Today?s image is of a Kush ite Warrior, illustrated by our own forum contributor Atula Siriwardane. It?s an excellent pencil illustration if you ask me, and I think you?ll enjoy it as well.

Read about Atula and his contribution at Border Kingdom

View Atula's Kush ite Warrior here: Kush ite Warrior

View some other examples of Atula's work at his profile page, including a picture of Conan, and a stunning pastel: Atula Siriwardane Profile

And if you like the image, please be sure to leave him a message telling him so at the bottom of the page when viewing the enlarged picture. I?ve seen all the images so I know that these artists have put a lot of time and effort into giving Howard fans something they can really enjoy for years to come.

Tomorrow I?ll post an update of the next artist.

Please let me know if you have any feedback on the project.

If you?re an artist, and interested in contributing, please go here:

Nice site and thanks for sharing.

Those pastels are incredible, simply incredible! And lest I be misunderstood, I mean incredibly good.

A treat for those of you who are SSoC fans like myself, or for those of you that like to see illustrations inspired by the Howard texts.

Thanks Buxom. Sorry about that. Right now I'm paranoid with SQL injection attempts... too paranoid probably, so the form didn't allow you to enter a a carriage return.

Too stringent though.. so I removed it. You should be able to add that comment like normal now.

I've really got some good pieces I think everyone will enjoy, still two more pieces to be released this week, and I might pull a surprise one on Monday.

Also, received via email a suggestion to open up a forum to bring back fan fiction as well... that might be in the future as well.

Hey CB! I noticed the nice write-up Leo did on your website (on his Cimmerian blog). Congrats! :D I found Blakely's piece to be quite accurate, IMO. Be sure to have ALL your artists visit the "Hyborian Age" board to get the low-down on what Robert E. Howard thought was "what". ;)

Once again, very cool site. :)

i am hooked now, and look forward to more new Hyborian art at your very impressive site.

hope you can achieve a site/forum for fan-fiction sometime in the future?
you know you can count on me to post my Hyborian tales and rhymes there.
once the site is running i will write an enthusiastic poem about your fan-fic site - to help with promotion.

Deuce, Thank you for your kind comment of my work.

I had to thank Zack for sending me, that thread from you. It means a lot to me.
I've been a fan of Robert E. Howard and his characters, since High School. In fact,
one of the first drawings that I ever did, was Conan from the original Frazetta painting.

When, I first got the tracker as an assignment, I saw it, immediately in my head and I
went to work...passionately on it.
Normally, I would have sent a sketch first, but I knew exactly what it should look like.
I've lived in Howard's world in my thoughts as an artist for years.

To me,it was an honor to illustrate something related to Conan's world.

I'm still a big fan of Howard's realm of sword and sorcery.
For some reason, I just love his stories of Conan, Kull,
Solomon Kane and Bran Mak Morn.

I would love to illustrate them all someday.

Kotas the Dragon, was created out of my love for Conan
and anything in that sword and sorcery vein. Would you believe, I have
2 bootleg versions of Fire and Ice by Ralph Bashi and Frank Frazetta...
One has the movie score, so I definitely had to have that. And, just
the other day...I ordered 2 disc version from Amazon.com... LOL

Would anyone in these forums be interested in getting some
commissions from me?

I would be willing to post a few sketches of whatever Howard
character, that would strike anyone's fancy.

I'm also fond of pulp heroes such as The Shadow, The Spider,
Masked Marvel, etc.

here's a link to check that out...

I look forward to a good relationship with my fellow Howard fans.

Take Care and Thank You.

I'm having a hard time describing how exciting and brilliant this project is to me! There have been plenty of Conan galleries, or general Howard ones, but this is the first "Hyborian Age" gallery I've seen, and the little that has been put up so far shows we're on to a winner.

There are so many possibilities ripe for an artistic depiction: Shemite nomads stalking the blinding desert, AEsir wanderers on the trail of adventure, Stygian priests readying for a bloody sacrifice, Corinthian mercenaries drinking and fighting and wenching in a tavern, Turanian scouts surveying a treacherous mountain pass, Zamorian dancing girls cavorting before the Spider God wearing only black beads, Barachan pirates brawling on the deck of a carrack...

I'll be watching this with great interest.

YES! This is exactly the idea Taranaich.. in fact I need more of these descriptions to help me grow the project... I can't think of them all by myself. I'll have something about you guys being able to contribute your own descriptions soon... hopefully by the weekend.

...in fact I need more of these descriptions to help me grow the project... I can't think of them all by myself.

description of a scene...

a beautiful buxom young woman asleep on a fancy bed or couch.
she is only wearing some jewelry and a skimpy 'harem-style-bikini', and has curvy hips and long legs.
she is on her side facing the artist so her big bosom/cleavage should be clearly protruding.
a huge dark-demonic-Shadow is looming over her [from behind].
the demon's only recognisable prominant features should be 2 horns, long claws, and 2 evil red or yellow glowing eyes.

i would call the scene
SHADOWS IN THE HAREM
or
BEAUTY OVERSHADOWED

hope this is useful ? :)

Fantastic site and idea! I love that artwork about Conan's world. I will go there and check it out often.
