In all fairness, Spawn and The Maxx, as entertaining as they were, were pretty juvenile anyways. Especially Spawn. <_<

I'd agree with you in terms of the execution and the actual narrative, but the fact that they managed to make a critically and commercially viable western animation containing sex, violence and strong language is pretty impressive, given the animation age ghetto western animation's still crawling out of. I just hope if a Conan animation comes out, the man in charge will have the clout to stop any snakish executive meddling to tone down or homogenize Conan.

(my hat of Todd McFarlane no no limit)

I'm sorry, I realize this is a typo, but it turn out to be delightful! :D I want a Hat of Todd McFarlane!

Actually it's a paraphrase of an old RPG forum post about d20: "my hat of d02 know no limit".

And my opinion of Spawn being juvenile was really just an opinion. I always thought Spawn was the most overrated character in the history of comics. And McFarlane's opinion of himself and his trash creation irritate the fecal matter out of me.

Did you read Spawn Bloodfeud written by Alan Moore? The was bloody marvellous.

No. By the time that came out, I was so over reading the title I didn't even pay attention to where it was going, or who was writing it. I even sold my copies of issues 1-21. <_<

well worth a look mate.

What issues did it cover? And is there a TPB for it?

Edit: Nevermind. I never pay that much for reading material, no matter how good it is. <_<

Anyone see Dead Space: Downfall?

Entertaining, mature and animated. That is how I would like to see REH's Conan done. B)

If done well it could be a hit.

Just stick to the REH Stories to start with, maybe later if the source material starts to become exhausted use the Carter/de Camp pastiches as adaptations.

I agree with you. If done correctly (centered primarily on the original REH stories) and targeted at an adult audience (much like Todd McFarlane's Spawn on HBO and the aforementioned Dead Space: Downfall), it could be very successful.

I think if they followed and took REH stories this could be a wonderful idea.

It would solve the problem of finding a nonexistent actor who could play Conan.
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

With that restriction, I wouldn't mind a freaking puppet show. :)

I would like something along the lines of "Beowulf" or "A Christmas Carol".

I didnt really have respect for animation versions of famous lit or comics characters.

Then i saw the highly rated Batman The Animated Series with Bruce Timm and co It captured the detective essence of Batman and has a great Joker, full of great stories. The fans of the comics rate it almost as high as original stories. Even won several Emmy over the Simpsons.

After seeing that i believe Conan done with similar respect to REH stories could become a great series.

Hey Libaax, have you ever seen Bruce Timm's Conan art? Sure, it's fairly derivative of the Marvel Conan in terms of his clothing and "jewelry", but I really like the way he "cartoonifies", or caricatures Conan. I think he would do an awesome job on a Conan animated series. He does seem to come from a genuine love of the character, and I think his Conan is miles better than the clunky Saturday morning circa 1985 look of the Red Nails art.
