Oh, dear.

I'm afraid this fine award has ofehhhnded (to quote Uncle Mike) Maggie Van Ostrand's editor.

Wah.

Tex

PS--Throw the award, with great force, at Fenner.

PPS--So, we gonna have a design contest for the award? A gold-plated pile of dung, with a horned helmet, sounds about right. OY! PainBrush! Get to work!

BRILLIANT IDEA TEX !! I AM so ON THE JOB IT"S SILLY !!

hmmmmm ,since I swore off wasting so much time on computer games and made it an entire year without any gaming , I was going to celebrate tonight & I abandoned a planned marathon all-nighter of "Yuri's Revenge" to create this piece . I don't know if I can work up enough enthusiasm to spend any more time than that on something to do with DeCamp hahaah . - If I get bored enough , and have the spare time this year , I might try to hunt down an email address for Earl Norem & ask his permission to use his "Tranicos S.S.O.C. cover" & sculpt up a real statue/trophy of that so you'ns can give a real "DeCampista" award away at Howard Days or something .(if anybody'd be interested ? )

heehee , I'm a bad man ! - SO okay , I put a date of 2010 on it , so you all have plenty of time to vote on who should get the award . Should there be distributed multiple awards ? 1st , 2nd , and 3rd place awards or what does everyone think ? - Just don't go dishing them out at random , or you'll diminish their "collectors value" hahaahahah

have at it !!

p.s. i think it's sufficiently creepy to fit the purpose of such an award , but I have a couple more designs in mind also if that one's not the ticket...( tho I don't have the motivation to draw 'em up tonight )

And for what it's worth , I vote the 2010 DeCampista award goes to Ms. VanOstrand AND her Editor Jason for those hilarious shenanigans he cooked up .

Abso-fraggin-lutely bee-yootiful, PainBrush! It fits with the horrifying idea of “educated” folks (de Campistas) shamelessly displaying their perverse ignorance in public.

And I love the use of the MaTTPOP art; totally appropriate!

Truly, it is a trophy any thinking person would be ashamed to be awarded (but then, these are de Campistas; thinking isn't a factor for them.)

[quote name='Libaax' date='31 December 2009 - 02:02 AM' timestamp='1262224949' post='144557']Comparing REH to JK Rowling is like comparing him to Stephen King. Writers that are popular only for their storytelling ability. Not to talk about giving the editor too much credit...[quote]

The thing is, it isn't even good storytelling, it's competent storytelling. Rowling tells her story competently: it isn't a particularly great story, but she tells it well enough for people to understand. She isn't doing anything that hasn't been done before, and far better, by earlier authors: she's just doing it for a modern audience.

Wah.

You know, I initially worried about being too hard on Maggie, but then I thought: she's a political satirist, she's bound to have a tough skin. Then Jason comes on here and talks about Maggie being upset and vilified. I have to wonder how the hell she survived as a satirist if our essentially polite discourse, with no stronger language than calling her a "harridan" or some such.

That's a beautiful trophy, PB, thoroughly encapsulating everything the award's about. :P

That is what i'm saying. I dont think Rowling and co as good storytelling ability. Competent sure. More like giving the masses what they want. Just like those vampire romance authors....

heehee , glad you guys liked the design ! I was worried it wouldn't be gaudy or overwrought enough . ( bonus points at the "award ceremony" to any of you U.K. members who recognize the original trophy before I uhhmm , 're-imagined it' )
