"Our basic purist premise:
ROBERT E. HOWARD, ENTIRELY ALONE, WITHOUT ASSISTANCE FROM ANY OTHER PERSON, CREATED THE CHARACTER CONAN OF CIMMERIA. NO OTHER PERSON OR PERSONS SHOULD BE INTRUDING THEIR WORK INTO THE VOLUMES OF HOWARD'S CONAN STORIES.
In essence, we believe that the work of any creative artist -- writer, painter, illustrator, musician, what-have-you -- is a unique expression of an artistic point of view. It should not be appropriated or altered by others without the artist's consent. No other writer has Robert E. Howard's unique point of view, and no other writer knows what Howard would have done with his character had he lived. Upon his death, his canon, the expression of his artistic vision, became fixed. Tampering with it now is desecration."

Side note; to speak to the dialogue in Spartacus, I believe their speech is as if it was translated from Latin to English. Save for the cursing of course. There is a lot more than boobs and blood going on here.

I like the contrast in the gladiator's lives in and out of the arena. Inside, they're somebody. They have a chance to fight or die. Outside, they're just slaves, used by everyone.
Thats what i like about the show most so far. They show well the weird life of a Gladiator. When he trains, fights he is loved, famous everything outside his element he is just a slave.

I know they stole it from somewhere, but where? If you gave me 300 guesses, I doubt I'd place it.

It's the olden lure, it's the golden lure, it's the lure of the timeless things. - Robert Service
For the myth is the foundation of life; it is the timeless schema, the pious formula into which life flows when it reproduces its traits out of the unconscious. - Thomas Mann
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. - Norman Maclean

I am wondering are they gonna do a Conan kind thing with it, in that this series is called Blood and Sand and it deals with his time as a gladiator?
Will the second series deal with him somewhere else.
I don't know the original story.

Episode 5 seals the deal for me. I am now loving this series.

Frankly there have been several films,tv about his time as a leader of a rebellion. Nothing about the times of him as a slave, gladiator.
Maybe they flee, the rebellion starts in the last ep of the show.
I love this show because i enjoy the characters, the harsh, violent life of the gladiator. Not because there is great action, some sex scenes....

Practically the only source we have for Spartacus is Plutarch. He says that Spartacus, a probable Thracian deserter from the Roman auxilia (only Roman citizens could serve as legionaries) was sent to the gladiator school of Batiatus at Capua and fomented a rebellion there. He does not say whether or not Spartacus actually ever fought in the arena, only that he was at the training school. He also says that the gladiators there were made to fight "not because of anything they had done, but only because of the cruelty and oppression of their master." In Plutarch's day (almost two centuries later) even a slave could not be sent to the arena without being first condemned by a court. Considering the circumstances, this place was a rebellion waiting to happen right from the get-go. The Spartacus rebellion resutled in some serious reforms of the games and of the institution of slavery itself, not for humanitarian reasons but for purely practical ones.

I now have a new favorite line:
"Slaves? They send common f------g slaves to kill Batiatus? Common . . . f------g . . . slaves? F--k!"

Sadly, Batatius and Lucretia are listed in IMDb for 6 of the shows 12 first season episodes. Whereas Spartacus, Crixus and Doctore are down for all 12. I would sure hate to see either John Hannah or Lucy Lawless exit the show, as they are two of its strongest and most interesting characters.
