I'm seriously in. Action and drama by Raimi and co. If the writing doesnt suck it can become really fun to watch :)

Looks neat. I'll be looking forward to it.

This is sounding pretty good, and the great news is it will be shown in Canada starting January 25.

Devil Due has a Spartacus motion comic - Upon the Sands of Vengeance - narrated by Ray Park (Star Wars) available on iTunes for $1.99 (15 minute motion comic - TVMA )

Preview is very bloody. Looks good - only 5 reviews for the comic so far.

I went to their forums but couldn't locate any specific air date, though someone suggested it may air before the summer.

Here's the official trailer: Spartacus: Blood and Sand

It looks like it owes a lot to 300 for style and stylized action.

Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi did it again - what a great show!
Watch it. WATCH IT! WATCH IT!

Great story, great action, great fights, great actors. That's how I'd wished a REH-movie or -series would be made.
(BTW, it shows us that it doesn't need a steroid muscle monster to play a Conan-character.)

When I saw Lucy Lawless in the sencond half of the pilot, it was a great moment. After all these years she is there again, and how wonderful!

Yes, I'm absolutely thrilled from what I've seen so far.

Sounds good Andradir - I will be watching tonight! Not a bad way to help celebrate the father of sword & sorcery. B)

I will second all of this - I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode, and the final fight scene had me jumping up and cheering the spectacle!

mmmmmm....

they need to seriously cut down on the cgi blood and stuff. I mean obvious 300 rip offs abound in the episode I saw.

Good boobies though.

It's no "Rome."
"I live, I BURN WITH LIFE, I love, I slay, and am content."
"Here's to brother Painbrush, we drink to his Shade..."
"All Art Is Martial"- RZA

"Our basic purist premise:
ROBERT E. HOWARD, ENTIRELY ALONE, WITHOUT ASSISTANCE FROM ANY OTHER PERSON, CREATED THE CHARACTER CONAN OF CIMMERIA. NO OTHER PERSON OR PERSONS SHOULD BE INTRUDING THEIR WORK INTO THE VOLUMES OF HOWARD'S CONAN STORIES.
In essence, we believe that the work of any creative artist -- writer, painter, illustrator, musician, what-have-you -- is a unique expression of an artistic point of view. It should not be appropriated or altered by others without the artist's consent. No other writer has Robert E. Howard's unique point of view, and no other writer knows what Howard would have done with his character had he lived. Upon his death, his canon, the expression of his artistic vision, became fixed. Tampering with it now is desecration."

Yeah I'll be watching this when it drifts on over my way. If it's any good I'll pick up the DVD's

It looks very promising....

Unfortunately, I agree that Spartacus is indeed a pale shadow of Rome. Cheaper sets and "cheaper" actors that are not as polished as the actors in Rome

That said, it was the price tag that killed Rome so perhaps Spartacus has a chance to be around awhile.

I liked it - the CGI is a bit much but more importantly I'm hoping the story will pick up some much needed steam with the addition of more characters.

I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.

I caught an episode of this last night. I have never seen Rome so I can't compare. It seems to be mix of 300 and Tombstone.
The freeze-frames and sprays of blood are getting silly. I can see if they appear at a dramatic point in the story, but every time somebody dies there seems to be a huge fountain of blood. It's like the profanity, just thrown in for gratuitous effect..

But I can see Conan done in this manner. The backgrounds are entirely CGI anyway.
