First thing this morning I lurked through the mails and I clearly remember the joy when I saw the e mail containing the name Painbrush, hoping for a few more chatting or titles of a few more books Pain suggested me to read. Or a new way of etching the blades or just a friendly big savage hello to this strange werecat behind the name of Munthasem.

And than came the shock. My chest squeezed literally, not believing, trying by the power of sheer blind will not to accept the words I've just read. But there were the same words in the mail. Passed away.
I cursed all the gods and devils from heaven to hell and back for this, sat down, took a deep breath and clicked on the mail reply button, shakin' hands in wild pursuit of what words to use to express my condolences, sadness and fury I've felt and still feel typing this.

I've lurked through this forum for quite a while. Almost a year or so before actually joining and Pain's posts always ended up with me ROFL - ing literally. He was such a tremendous character. Had a very respectable knowledge in many areas and had a real lust for the stuff.
He even confirmed me as a facebook friend just a few weeks ago not having time to even post a single post on his wall.

Over the past few years, three members of the three different forums I'm posting on,
passed away. The one on some strength sports forum, the other on the bikers forum and now Painbrush.
If Painbrush was able to read this last sentence I wrote, he'd probably grumbled something like: "Umm! Maybe you should lay of that death spreading hormone pills a bit."

Anyway, I could bang this post for a whole day, remembering his posts and a good laugh I've had with this sharpminded big brute, so I'll conclude with another condolences to his relatives and to all of his friends.

Although we've never met in person, I can count him as one of my best friends for sure.
I rise a big horn of the most divine mead to you Painbrush.

I'll miss you forever my friend! :(

Very sad news and sincere condolences from one new to here who enjoyed reading what he had to say.

certaintly didn't see eye to eye with the man and like reaver bumped heads once or twice, but as has been previously been posted, he knew his stuff and I can't but have respect for someone who is intransigent in his beliefs, even if I don't always agree with them. Best wishes to you Sheila, and the rest of your family. Damn shame.

This is a shock and I am at a total loss for words.

Dan made me laugh many a time and always had a different insight on Howardian things that I always enjoyed.

Very sorry for your loss. Dan will be sorely missed in this community.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is always hard when you lose a loved one, but never more so than at this time of year. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I couldn't believe the news this morning. We had just started exchanging messages on the French (and the Jerry Lewis myth) after the "Solomon Kane movie" thread fun.
My sincere condolences.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. I always enjoyed reading Dan posts, even I am not posting so often on this forum, mainly because of my (maybe) bad knowledge of English language.

Perhaps the forum could sponsor a Painbrush Award, or a Dan Goudy Award, for something or other, although at this point I'm not sure what it would be for.

I think a good way to remember Dan would be to use the "DeCampista" award he designed. That is, if it would be alright with his family.

All I can say is
NO!
I can't believe it. He was just horsing around with us yesterday.
It's a huge shock. He was larger than life.
We'll certainly miss him around here.

Painbrushgirl, can you tell us where and when the service will be? There are some in his area that may want to join you in mourning.
"When I cannot stand alone, it will be time to die," he mumbled, through mashed lips. "But I'd like a flagon of wine."

This is a shock, i was just reading his posts from the last few days.

He was a great guy, and had a great sense of humour.

My condolences to you and your family.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Painbrush was truly a great member to this forum, and I will sorely miss his posting style and sense of humor. Maybe he's sharing a drink with REH now.

I am completely shocked and saddened by this news. Dan was the life and soul of this forum - sometimes a trial for us mods it's true - but his posts were always full of life, passion, humour and learning. He really was a giant, and if there's an afterlife I'm sure he'll be sitting over a beer with Robert E. Howard enjoying a joke and in depth conversation about some arcane piece of historical lore. I do know how much this site meant to him.

Please accept my deepest condolences Sheila. If there's anything we can do, please let us know. Things just aren't going to be the same around here.

Though Dan's unique typing fashion and fantastic comedy style made him a great figure of fun on the forum, he showed remarkable insights. For all his "caveman on a computer" persona, there was a fiercely intelligent brain in that noggin: his post on "The Frost-Giant's Daughter" was full of it.

Aye, that's the unique trait of PB. He may post and write like a drunkard high on some strong stuff, but by Crom the man shows insights. Blunt, but insightful.

I'll miss him.

Sheila,
firstly sorry for your loss, its never easy to lose a loved one and Ive lost too many myself this last few years...

I liek others here admit to having a hard time believing the news at first, shocked isnt a word i use lightly.

How can someone so forthright and full of life just lose his flame like that.. its a shock despite only knowing him through his posts on this forum.. hes one of those folks I always wanted to meet to see if he was as large as life as he seemed to be, I think i woulda liked him..

The REH forum will be a little less bright without him

Aw man,
I can't believe he gone like that. He and I were just having a debate about Blackman and the whole FDG thing a few days ago. Shiela I'm so sorry for your loss. I didnt know Dan as well many of you did, but I've been reading his posts for years and he was a great asset to this community. Yes, he was blunt sometimes, but he was also honest adn straight up. He often had tremendous insight and there is no question about his passion for REH. You'll be missed dog brother.
