The Keep was an awesome movie. REH would have liked it, if not the original book (s) by F Paul Wilson. The book was actually part of trilogy.
didn't know that, Ive read a couple of F Paul Wilsons books and really liked his style.. need to look some more of his stuff ut,its been a while since I read some decent horror

Hey Budgie! Wilson is an aknowledged Lovecraft fan (like REH). He's said in interviews that he intended that The Keep be "Lovecraftian". He has an excellent story called "The Barrens" in the Lovecraft's Legacy anthology. You should also check out Campbell's The Darkest Part of the Woods.didn't know that, Ive read a couple of F Paul Wilsons books and really liked his style.. need to look some more of his stuff ut,its been a while since I read some decent horror

As much as I wanted to like 'Darkest Part of the Woods,' I just could NOT get into it. I must've given it a hundred pages. A writer should hook you by 50, 100 at the latest.
Hey Timeless! Art is a subjective thing. Some think that Man-Eaters of Zamboula is a masterpiece and Blood of Belshazzar is crap. I beg to differ. You've read Campbell's "Ryre" tales, I assume?

No, I haven't. But I do like those old CtB Thomas/Buscema tales. Just got my collection back in my hands after a couple of decades and am having a ball re-reading them. Most of them, anyway.
Yeah, I thought Roy did a fine job, considering the CCA restrictions he was under. I met him at Howard Days last year. A great guy. The four "Ryre" stories by Campbell are very Howardian: fast-paced S&S with an emphasis on horror.

This Fall (way too busy now) I'm going to hit ebay and try to complete my Savage Sword #1-60 collection (the only ones that really matter, when RT worked on them.) I'm going to sell my others and use whatever I make to replace the gaps in 1-60 (about twenty issues.) Looking forward to reading them. I don't have the adaptations of 'Slithering Shadow' or 'Devil in Iron' or 'Shadows in Zamboula,' some of my favorites.
Looking at all the great Buscema/DeZuniga/Chan T and A in those old issues, it's difficult to understand why I liked them as a teenage boy...

3) PG-13. Anything that should even be remotely attached to Robert E. Howard's name shouldn't be anything less than R. His creative palate was blood, sex, and gore, not some Xena episode.
Actually, Xena did have blood, sex and gore. It was Hercules that was the friendly no killing hero show.

1.)The barbarian usurper who was ousted from his throne and returned following a quest.
2.)The resurrected sorceress
3.)The cabal of nobles and seers who brought the undead back to life.
4.)The fence who attmepted to doublecross an old client.
I haven't seenand/or noticed any other comments to this effect. So,at the risk of appearing to be obtuse, would any else care to comment?

I recall hearing that "Kull the Conquerer" was supposed to be a Conan movie starring Arnie, an adaptation of HoTD, also known as "Conan the Conquerer". This would explain the elements from HoTD, like the sorceress and mentions of Acheron, which of course existed long after Kull's time. Too bad nobody involved realized this.
Actually, if you read The Road to Kull...
You can see that the writer did knowing use elements from HotD. He just wove them into a story that got butchered by the producers and the director.

Perhaps we can get a petition or something to get a new movie done with a better director.

I thought Kevin Sorbo Did well as Kull in the movie. My thought is, Good actor,Bad director and bad script. I think John Mileus or even Ridley Scott as director would have made that movie great. What does anyone else think?

I don't think John Milius would have made that good of a Kull director. CTB was a classic barbarian movie but I agree with most here that it wasn't a Conan movie. Strange thing about CTB was I really enjoyed it and didn't know why until I watched the behind the scenes of Fire& Ice. Painting with Fire where Milius admitted to framing the shots like a Frazetta painting.
