"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Money and muscle, that's what I want; to be able to do any damned thing I want and get away with it. Money won't do that altogether, because if a man is a weakling, all the money in the world won't enable him to soak an enemy himself; on the other hand, unless he has money he may not be able to get away with it.
--Robert E. Howard to Harold Preece, ca. June 1928--

Nice drawing, but way too big and muscular. When I read the original stories, I always picture a build more similar to that guy on Stargate Atlantis.

i drew this nearly 24 hours ago and still like it.
the sword's a bit bigger to better balance it in that position but i think i've avoided silly big fantasy sword syndrome. and i'm much happier with the face.

It's coming along, I wish I could do stuff like that. I had a Conan model for a year now and it's only a quarter finished. Not comparing model building to what your doing.
This sculpture is great. Keep the updates coming. On a side note, Seamvs, start a thread showing us your progress on the model...

the bands on the chest are thin cardboard cut from the back of an old drawing pad and the rivets are straight pins. the gravel is cat sand. i'm planning to cast this piece so i figure it doesn't matter if the original involves various materials.
i don't have any casting experience and this is going to be a complicated piece. the hair and his belt knot are separate and i plan to cut off his left arm and separate him from the base. but first i have another statue i've done that will work as a single two piece mold. i'm going to try that first then move on to this one.
the statue i'm doing sketches for right now has armor. it's going to be really complex. ought to be a good challenge.
