Should it be moved ahead of the others,is it that good?

I don't think so. It's really fascinating if you're interested in Howard's life. If you're looking for a good read, you should probably look elsewhere.

One thing that occurs to me when reading through your list of books you've bought (since, what was it, Sept 2009?) is how good REH fans have got it lately. I was caught in the Howard boom of the late-seventies and early-eighties, and it was nothing like what you guys have now, The REH Foundation Press books alone are like an impossible dream to fans like me (pinch me, those Collected Poetry/Tales Of Weird Menace books cannot be real etc!).On the whole I'd say your list covers the bases. Just relax and see what the REHF have next- if it's the collected boxing stories, revised Blood and Thunder bio etc then you need look no further. A collected Westerns series would be wonderful.

As far as one book inparticular that I'd love to have, well, I would like to see Almuric get the Jim & Ruth Keegan treatment!

I have the Solomon Kane and Conan DelRey collections and the following:
  • The Howard Collector (Ace)
  • Nameless Cults (Chaosium)
  • The Books of Robert E Howard (Zebra)
  • The Second Book of Robert E Howard (Berkley)
  • Red Nails (Berkley)
  • Eons of the Night (Baen)
  • Worms of the Earth (Ace)
  • Tigers of the Sea (Ace)
  • The Sowers of the Thunder (Zebra)
Aside from the other DelRey (Bran Mak Morn, etc.) collections there anything I should add or replace an edtion(s)?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like you've got a good start there, Russ. B) Since my collection got flooded, you're more or less better off than I am.

Keep in mind that the REH Foundation has more great stuff coming out like the "Celtic" and "Reincarnation" volumes. Boxing too.

All depends on whether you want to piece things together with ppbks or go big with the hcs.

BTW, I merged your thread with an earlier one. That way, you receive advice from uber-collectors like Paul Herman and Rob Roehm. :)

In addition, here's a similar (but not identical) thread that might be interesting:

I want to echo Deuce's comment on the Robert E. Howard Foundation. They're printing lots of good stuff. The plan is that between the Del Ray series and the REHF, everything should be in print, barring a few drafts and outlines.  Here's the link to the foundation.

Thanks man!
Just wanted to make sure I had the girth of stuff.
Sucks your stuff got flooded. My job during 2000 and 2006 had me on the road a lot and I managed to pick up most of this throughout Upstate NY and New England.

Sidenote: I only one pastiche (Ace #6 Buccaneer) and the Arnie novelization. I don't don't if that tags me as a purist but I can't forget what I already know!

I got my first look at Conan literature when I bought two of the three Del Ray conan books at a closing Borders over a year ago. I've finished them and re-read a few tales and then started picking up more in the series as time permitted. So far I've finished Solomon Kane and I am closing in on the last few tales of Bran Mak Morn. Previous to all this, I had borrowed Kull, which is how I discovered Del Ray's publications. So what would the community suggest the next one to be?

The outstanding ones are:

* El Borak and Other Desert Adventures
* Sword Woman and Other Historical Adventures
* The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard (curiously bearing Solomon Kane on the cover)
* The Best of Robert E. Howard Volume 1 and 2

Which would be the best next step?

I've noticed that Bison Books also seems to have published anthologies. I noticed they had one or two on Howard's "Westerns", which Del Ray does not appear to have. Are the ones by Bison as well done as the Del Ray publications? Is Del Ray still publishing books compiling Howard's works (like the Westerns that Bison appears to have done)? Are the Bison publications that seem to cross with Del Ray ones comparable in quality?

Thanks,

M.

I like the Bison Books, enough to get them all in hardcover. By all means get the straight western collection. Howard was ahead of his time writing hard-boiled westerns. No one else was doing this and it wasn't until the mid 1940s the western field began to catch up.

Cheomesh! Good to see you expanding your Howardian horizons. B)

Basically, it all depends on where your literary interests lie. I would suggest you buy one of the "Best Ofs" just so you can see the best of everything out there in ALL categories and then make a decision. However, I'd say (judging from your previous posts) that Sword Woman would be your best bet in a SINGLE category.

I've noticed that Bison Books also seems to have published anthologies. I noticed they had one or two on Howard's "Westerns", which Del Rey does not appear to have. Are the ones by Bison as well done as the Del Ray publications?

The thread on ALL the Westerns is here: http://www.conan.com...?showtopic=2596

In addition, you can put "western" and "westerns" into the search engine and find the other threads dealing with those topics.

Del Rey is done with REH (people should've bought more; perhaps Del Rey would've continued the series).

The Bison thread is here: http://www.conan.com...c=1536&hl=bison

This should be of interest as well: http://www.conan.com...c=1964&hl=bison

Rusty Burke and Patrice Louinet put together the Bisons (along with other Howardian stalwarts).
