Hi!

I'm interested in crafting some figures of different cultures of Conan's time. Is there any visual reference or collected descriptions of the costuming and ethnic look of the different cultures of the Hyborian age that I can reference for this project? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OOPS! Sorry! I've posed this question in a few forums and I guess I lost track! Apologies!

No biggie, Mike. :) Actually, this is the better sub-forum for this thread, anyway. My suggestion is that you read through the threads on this board dealing with the various peoples of the Hyborian Age. Parallels to "real world" cultures are discussed. Also, there are several threads about the armor and clothing of the Hyborian Age. A little bit of work, but the only way to get some feel as to how Robert E. Howard (as opposed to some artist or pasticheur) described that lost era and its peoples.

I'll tell you for free that Aquilonian civilian clothing and military gear was NOT "Roman" in feel. No togas, no gladii, no pila. Instead, you see civilians wearing hose, jerkins, jupons and surcoats. Heavy lancers armored in plate and mail are the primary arm of the Aquilonian military, supplemented by longbowmen and pikemen. It doesn't get more medieval than that.

The Border Kingdom website does have commissioned artwork depicting various Hyborian Age cultures.

Hope that helps. :)
