The Crawler was the original Marvel comic. I assume PR had the comics to go with the other LP's as well. The story does not make much sense without the comic. Just wondering why these are not there on the web site.

Not sure what you mean. Actually the Crawler comic was specifically contracted for Power Records, and was done by Neal Adams. It was not originally a comic book. Later, years later, it was turned into a comic book, Conan 116, and the page count was increased to bring it to 20 pages (I think the power stories were only about 16 pages) by another artist, Buscema IIRC, or someone like that. Which makes me wonder if Adams drew the other Power Record comic books!

I liked that picture of Conan wreaking havoc on the bridge of the Enterprise! :D

"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Korak, what Slashing Sword meant I think is this : " Ok, there's a comic book that goes with the power records audio track Crawler from the mists, but where are the three comics that are supposed to go with the three OTHER Conan audio books from power records (Jewel of the Ages, Shadow of the Stolen City & The thunder dust)? "

To Slashing Sword and the others who maybe wonder about this: there has been only ONE comic book adaptation with MArvel's help (Crawler) , and the experience stopped there. There are NO other comic books going with the other Conan audio tracks, that's all.
Crawler was a "book and record(45 rpm)" set, the other 3 were simply audio books (by the way the 3 stories I mention were published with Crawler in a 4 audio book compilation, as you can see on Terry's link).

Hey gang,

I was taking a look at my Conan collection and I remembered that I had some of the original comic strips from this period. I did a quick double check, and it seems that I have all of the color ones printed each Sunday from September 10th 1978 to April 12th 1981 from various Texas newspapers (mostly Houston. They were quite a pain to put in order, and I need to figure out a proper method of storing them than in essentially a giant comic book bag that I put together (but it works).

This might not be the right place to ask, and I might get some off-beat answers, but I will hazard it anyway. I though at one time we had a marketplace section? At any rate, what do you folks suppose such a collection of items would be worth, especially in light of these volumes being printed? I know having the original is best even in light of these re-prints. The newspaper itself is not yellowed or brittle at all, being in remarkable shape for something 30 years old captured weekly for nearly four years.

Have any of you seen complete or partial sets for sale before? I've never seen any except when I acquired the set that I do have, which was probably about eight years ago now. This is more for curiosity than anything, and yes, I'm aware that the market sets the value. I would just like to get an idea.

Cheers,

Jason

Hi Jason,

I'm sure you can find an interested party for those pages; whatever else they might or might not be, they're exceedingly rare. Personally I'd keep them! They're a part of history! ;)

I'm really looking forward to a preview of this trade and how the strips are going to be presented. With a September 22nd release date we are probably a month away from that preview. Unless Philip can hook us up with a sneak peek? :)

So there is no confusion:

If you want to discuss the newspaper strips outside this Dark Horse trade just go here:

Honestly, Strom, the cover pic matches the tone and feel of the republished strips: vintage newspaper material.

I dn't understand some fans sometimes, either DH digs up an unpublished or refused SSOC painted cover for example, or simply stick with something "lo-res" as this, its not a problem for me anyways.
A digitally painted modern cover would not be adequate for such volumes.

Perhaps a pic involving Conan and a foe would be better, a very dynamic action pic taken from the inside art ?

The lo-res dotted colors are NOT a problem, it's the TITLE BAR in the middle which ruins it. It's just a thick black bar scotched across the pic!

I like the cover. It's simple, straightforward and screams Sunday comics to me. Comparing it to other comicstrip compilation covers, it seems pretty standard.

Money and muscle, that's what I want; to be able to do any damned thing I want and get away with it. Money won't do that altogether, because if a man is a weakling, all the money in the world won't enable him to soak an enemy himself; on the other hand, unless he has money he may not be able to get away with it.
