Saw this gal/character on a cover, in a comix shop today .... might be relevant:

Hmmmm, since the hair needs to be blazing, I guess probably the first thing is to get the color and lighting to make that sort of effect -- I'm guessing that, until you know the sort of lighting you'll need for that effect, it will be hard to settle on a skin tone; perhaps it will also effect who you color the surroundings, too? (I seem to recall the environment in which Conan met and pursued Atali was a bit psychedellic).

What's your opinion of Atali's hair in Conan #2?

Another issue is 'What is typical Aesir and Vanir hair'?

Do you set Atali's hair first, then make Aesir and Vanir hair 'equidistant' from her? or do you settle on Aesir and Vanir hair, then have Atali split the difference?

His gaze went again to her unruly locks, which at first glance he had thought to be red. Now he saw that they were neither red nor yellow but a glorious compound of both colors. He gazed spell-bound. Her hair was like elfin-gold; the sun struck it so dazzlingly that he could scarcely bear to look upon it. ... Her full red lips smiled, and from her slender feet to the blinding crown of her billowy hair, her ivory body was as perfect as the dream of a god. Conan's pulse hammered in his temples.

I see some sort of sparklies in her hair as well as the usual tint. For me, her hair would be more than "blond with red streaks"; there would be some sort of witch-fire burning among her locks.

I am toying with your glittering look Kortoso, if you don't mind me using it or doing something close to it

Now that her hair is getting better, I also think that to look really Nordic, her skin should be paler, and her lips and nipples should look paler and pinker.

I did some tweaking to her nipples and skin tone. her is the photo
skin tone/nipple tweak

Was this about what you were talking about? I want to keep the lips a bit on the red side as they were described in the story.

Much better. I would not go with the snow-white skin in the Dark Horse comic, but I like the hair in Dark Horse.

Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Perhaps it looks more red in his first glance, then the light changes, he sees it in its full glory, and he can't tell whether it's red or blond. I think the technical term for this hair color is auburn.

the hair in the Dark horse, as I am looking over the story looks pumpkin orange with yellow specularity from where the sun is hitting it.

the latest render,
Atali with orange/ red hair
I am stopping for a while on her as I want to pull the animation together in low poly to rough out the camera angles and timing for the movie. The one on the site is being taken down because I am redoing it in Blender. Thanks to everyone who spoke up and helped out

you might even consider changing the hair color subtly from shot to shot. make the camera POV a little subjective.

That's a great idea. Continuity is a rule, but one that can be violated for an effect. :)

My impression was always that her hair color would shift back and forth, never quite becoming fully red or gold.

The reason it looked red at first to Conan could simply be that Atali's hair was in its most reddish phase at that point. Conan then seems to think her an AEsir, then he's utterly unsure.

She's living bait to lure Vanir and AEsir to their dooms, so she's got both hair colors covered.

That's good; that's kind of what I was hoping for.

yes, that is why I was thinking red with blonde specularity. so say he saw her when a cloud was blocking the sun. it would look red but when the sun was full on it. it would look blonde but Conan is to smart to be fooled by specularity so having it actually changing from one color to the next as you and Indestructableman pointed out might be cool maybe by using the sparklies that Kortoso was talking about after all I need to animate her eye color with greys and blues, why not her hair too like the borealis. One of the reasons I like Frazettas paintings is the way he uses his colors of cold and warm to create the whole and Atali and this story in general plays that whole palette

I just saw the intro to Douglas's live action film and it looks good so I am
going to make changes to the intro I have done so this doesn't come across as
the animation version of Douglas's movie. I am working on the rough animation
now and I will post the new intro on the site when it is done

Opening Scene

In the beginning where the sounds of war are, I will be adding video montages of fighting that goes with the sound bits,
cross fading and fading in and out to give a ghostly feel.

The other video clips are the original and I will change them later. I have some work to take care of and
will be back on this project once that work is done.

Thank you to the new supporters, every little bit helps to keep this going
