Im working on a Conan short in 3D...heres my first draft of my Conan:
Posted Image

And heres an idea for an opening:

Scene opens with a band of men on horse-top going through the jungle following a hulk looking, black haired warrior that rides a little ahead. Speaking to no one, facing always forward.
Next scene focuses on two men back in the crowd talking amongst themselves. As we pan in we hear the two men discussing a plan they are devising to kill the barbarian in his slumber
after they retrieve the treasure he hired them to help him find. The next shot is viewing us behind the leader when suddenly he throws up his left hand signaling the party to stop. He dis-mounts
from his steed, still not showing his face. He walks through the band of horses to the two men and with cat like reflexes he grabs them as he relieves the two bandits of their mounts, slamming them to the
ground. The scene now shows the terrified looks on the bandits faces as they realize they were over heard by the the barbarian. The camera now shows the face of the warrior, hard and chiseled...

Conan: By Crom, if you two curs want to have any more talks of my demise while I sleep I will tie you to a tree and let the picts have their way with you!

Bandit one: Sorry my lord, we were struck by a moment of madness.

Bandit two: Yes my lord, we will not speak of such things again, we beg your forgiveness.

The Cimmerian stands to face the crowd...

Conan: If there is a man amongst you that is not satisfied with the agreement we have for the gold face me now!

He waits a few moments but no word is muttered from the remaining party. The barbarian heads back and remounts his horse. He signals the band to move on.

Now the scene goes back to the men getting up and regathering themselves.

Bandit one: How could he have over heard us?

Bandit two: You fool! He is Conan of Cimmeria, he is not a normal man. I think it wise we not cross him again.

The camera now sees Conan from the front. Sitting tall, looking forward with a small curve of an evil smile on his face.

End scene one...

Like I said its a short in 3D. Its going to be very basic do to the fact that I have a story in mind and can do
some of the CGI work but it is hard to find others to join me on the film. The story is about Conan being
hired to retrieve the "Crown of Power" from deep within the bowls of the earth. The evil wizzard that employed him
told Conan that the treasure would be easy to retrieve but did not inform him of the demon that guards the crown which
is a dragon made of pure lava...But Conan knows that the seeking of great wealth is never easy in Hyboria.

Its ok, my little short isn't worth it. Havent got any further than writing a story and making some characters in Poser and Mudbox.

This is a short 3D animation I was working on way back. Its an original story with a mix of REH and the Savage Sword. I didn't think it was any good but after posting the opening here just for fun some people convinced me that it might warrant a second look. I decided to post it in my own thread to get feed back from some real Conan fans. So please, check it out and give me your thoughts...

Really excellent technique, but too much lip; it makes his scowl look petulant and pouty.

Kortoso is right, you should be discussing this on your own thread. Note that Kortoso and Cuchulainn are even adapting the same original story, but on different threads.
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

vaiguy,

Ironhand replied before I moved everything here. HIs response, in that respect, is just historical.

No one said anything about you copying anyone. They were just pointing out multiple takes can be had from one source.

Cheers.

And, stepping out of 'mod' role, I do like your Poser render. Conan looks appropriately gruff.

Thank you Warlord...3D work like this is real hard. Ive had no schooling so I had to learn Poser, Mudbox, Vue and 3DMax on my own. Im trying to get that life-like feel and its dang hard.

I believe they meant "original REH story" not "original personal Conan story." :)

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it ;)

Oh, ok...thanks Warlord

I have been working on the mouth...but not ready to show it yet, I'm not getting the hair the way I want it. I want
my Conan to have that old Savage Sword look but with my own style...if that makes sense?

he seems a little too aerosmith, and i think he needs a neck.

not bad though!

In essence, we believe that the work of any creative artist -- writer, painter, illustrator, musician, what-have-you -- is a unique expression of an artistic point of view. It should not be appropriated or altered by others without the artist's consent. No other writer has Robert E. Howard's unique point of view, and no other writer knows what Howard would have done with his character had he lived. Upon his death, his canon, the expression of his artistic vision, became fixed. Tampering with it now is desecration."

What I meant is that Cuchulainn and Kortoso are both adapting Frost Giant's Daughter.

I like the overall look of your Conan; dramatic and photorealistic.

Sorry Mad Playwright...

Thanks for the feedback...This is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. You have to give up to the guys at ILM and
other CGI studios. Just knowing how to work these programs is only the VERY TIP of the iceberg.

I did have an idea tonight though wile reading an early Savage Sword. What about doing a 3D animation with the old
look of the black and white comics. I would have to get Conan's look just right to match the artist drawings.

I think that is an AWESOME idea. The newest generation of DH fans might not get it, but the Marvel generation would.

I will play around with the "toonshader" in my Poser app to see what I can get. I'll post when I get something together.

Kinda in the style like this...but in 3D

Might want to give Blender a try. I just learned of the cel shader and tried my character in it. here is the link

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/REH_fanfilms/photos/album/1081471449/pic/1211508877/view?picmode=original&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=asc

I am not trying to highjack your thread just giving some helpful info

blender is free and is for all platforms I believe. with just a little tweaking, you might get the look you want
