Instead of using REH's original work as the basis of their research, they're researching table games and comic books. Talk about copy error!

That weapon may have been cast from aluminum or fibreglass.

I've always felt that Cimmerian weapons should look Celtic.

Fair enough. I was just referring to the style. The biggest problem I had with Conan 3D swords was that the crosspieces were so large,a nd the blades so wide. Like cartoon versiond of real swords.
I can even forgive the broad blade, if the rest of the design looks good. Love or hate Milius' film, he did have some great swords and weapons in that one.

the biggest issue is that REH never said anything of conan using a cimmerian sword , sur ea celtic sword would work for his days as a lad in cimmeria but once he is out of there, there should be no celtic looking swords at conns disposal .

That's true. He should actually use a different sword in each movie. I wasn't dissing your choice of swords, but there are some nice blades of that type.

At least the Jody Sampson swords from the earlier film work as art, if not as weapons. The swords from the new film, IMO, work as neither. I'm planning on picking up the new Windlass version, having never been able to afford the Albion nor desired a rat-tail tanged Marto wall hanger, but would never waste money on the monstrosities from the new disaster.
I agree that history is where the film makers should have looked for inspiration. Perhaps not direct copies, but functional weapons anyway. And they'd look great being weilded by a horde of bloodthirsty Cimmerians as they poured over the walls of Venarium in the opening sequence to a new Conan REBOOT.

The sword-knife is very like an Ilbarsi knife as I imagined it. And the Athena sword is a thing of lethal grace and beauty - the virtue of simplicity.
I agree that history is where the film makers should have looked for inspiration. Perhaps not direct copies, but functional weapons anyway. That Ilbarsi knife is what we call a Khyber knife.

Anyone got any idea when the new movie swords will be actually released? I have a feeling that the poor reception the movie got might have put an end to them ever being released.
