creators of Demo, will be announcing a new Dark Horse project at New York Comic
Con.
They don't know what it is though.
But you do. At least if you read the headline to this, you do.
Because, yes, Bleeding Cool understands that Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan are
the new Conan creative team to be announced by Dark Horse at the New York Comic
Con.
Wood's recent Northlanders series makes him a shoo-in. And
So., you know, act surprised. You never read Bleeding Cool. No one does.

Here are some issues drawn from Becky Cloonan.
Wood has a bit of a following, so it could excite interest in the way Roy Thomas (sorry) won't. But the conclusion of Northlanders makes me skeptical bout where comics are right now.

"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

I have no idea how this might work out, but admit some skepticism because I don't know if the author knows REH, and because the artist will apparently be depicting Queen of the Black Coast, one of the most iconic Conan tales of all. Will her bold, hard-edged style be able to capture the passion, violence, dusky jungles, gleaming jewels, eerie sorcery and fearful evil that makes this story such a classic?
Man, i always sympathize with the creators who take on Conan. Any writer knows he's going to be compared to REH and any artist knows they'll be compared to Frazetta. Those are some big shoes to fill.

The 2 pieces of art in that rumours article are just sketches, and done years previous. I don't believe they represent the style she'd use on her upcoming CONAN work. But her art styles range from atmospheric & moody to cartoony.
If Cloonan draws CONAN more like her work on her solo projects WOLVES and ORCS, then this new series may be interesting.

What art are you referring to, Slash? I don`t see any important thing in the link provided by Terry, only a sketch and a joke based on the original film. Are you supposing this is gonna be the final product? I`m not…

It's the style in that specific piece (I'm actually referring to the piece on DH blog). The way Conan is drawn. His face. The hands of Conan and Belit, her sword... It is less detail oriented and more towards cartoonish even though not as much as RotK disney art. The proportions of the body parts. Something about the art just not eye catching.
