But I have an idea of drawing a young conan, you know as a spearcarrier and with a pantherloincloth (cough!) possibly with a horned barbarian helmet. I think he should wear the pantherhead like a belt, kind of like a boxerchampion but on the side hip. Also, perhaps some kind of warpaint (for venarium) or actually putting the panther on as a mask. Because it is scary. And symbolizes a nightraider or cimmerian thief of kind. Horns on helmets has no direct use so it should be symbolic of something. Marks that he is chosen for something or has passed a ritual test. For a model I would choose one with a fighters physique rather than a bodybuilder type. Maybe even an early 1930´s fighter, contemporary with REH´s boxingdays, because those guys looked tough!
Feel free to use the idea anyone if you think it is a nice one.

Entry becomes the property of Dark Horse upon receipt.
This is unfortunate, but probably inevitable considering the licensing mumbo-jumbo that is copyright law.

Dark Horse's Event Coordinator's explanation in response to complaints:
--------------------------------------
So I spoke with our in house council and because we are only a licensor of the Conan Property from Conan Properties company we can't print any Conan artwork that we can't say is owned by Conan Properties. I totally understand where you're coming from. We're not trying to hold anybodies work and in light of your comment and comments from folks from No-Spec movement, this makes me not want to host any more Art contests since we're never likely going to be able to do anything different than the fine print above. I'm lucky we can even host this outside the US per the way our Legal folks want us to do things.

I can only draw stick men.
To be fair, that's an awesome stickman.
Turlogh shook his head. "Not so long as the race lasts."

ofcourse the vibrant colour image is only in my head, forever,
and no 'robbin-hoods' like 'drak-hoss' or 'see-p-eye' are gonna own my special creation.
but.... i dont mind if some other artist is inspired by my vivid image idea...

Oh yeah, and it's of Conan spanking Buxom.

I think Conan could think of better things to do with a buxom sorceress than toss her into an open sewer. That's a fate reserved for treacherous minxes.Ummmm .... I don't think Conan is the type to lie still and be spanked. The "buxom sorceress" who tried it would probably find herself in the reverse position, then tossed into an open sewer.
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

"Here's to brother Painbrush, we drink to his Shade..."
"All Art Is Martial"- RZA
"Our basic purist premise:
ROBERT E. HOWARD, ENTIRELY ALONE, WITHOUT ASSISTANCE FROM ANY OTHER PERSON, CREATED THE CHARACTER CONAN OF CIMMERIA. NO OTHER PERSON OR PERSONS SHOULD BE INTRUDING THEIR WORK INTO THE VOLUMES OF HOWARD'S CONAN STORIES.
In essence, we believe that the work of any creative artist -- writer, painter, illustrator, musician, what-have-you -- is a unique expression of an artistic point of view. It should not be appropriated or altered by others without the artist's consent. No other writer has Robert E. Howard's unique point of view, and no other writer knows what Howard would have done with his character had he lived. Upon his death, his canon, the expression of his artistic vision, became fixed. Tampering with it now is desecration."
