Robert E Howard Days 2012

Chuck is one of the pre-eminent essayists in Howard-dom, having kick-started serious criticism of REH with his "Conan the Existentialist" in 1974. It was due to my enormous respect for his body of work that I asked him to provide the essay in the first volume of The Best of Robert E. Howard from Del Rey.
You can read more about Chuck at the Foundation and REHupa websites, and read some of his essays at his blog (which he needs to start updating again...).
We're still kicking around ideas for panels and other events, so stay tuned for more news, and start making plans to be in Cross Plains in June. Opportunities to meet Chuck tend to be few and far between -- and he's definitely a guy worth meeting!

We'll be getting the 2012 REH Days page up & running in a couple of weeks. This year's overall theme is 80 Years of Conan the Cimmerian and we'll also present a tribute panel for our dear departed friend, Glenn Lord.

This is wonderful news. I've been checking the REHupa website daily since the Howard Days 2011 to see when the 2012 dates would be. My wife and I have already been laying down plans for what to see and what to do. And this year I'll at least be a little more familiar with the who's who of Howard fandom. I'm definitely looking for to it. Woohoo!

Are there anymore A Word From The Outer Dark left? I donated mine and would like to order another one. Thank you. It's never too early to start making plans to be at REH Days in June! If you click on the REH DAYS 2011 tab at the top of the REHupa.com page, the list of local motels is still pretty viable (he says, not having checked any of these...) There may even be some rooms at the 36 West Motel in Cross Plains. As for getting there, you're on your own...book early, book often...

Just a reminder to pre-register for the Howard Days on June 8th and 9th. The June 1st deadline is approaching very rapidly. Arlene Stephenson, president of Project Pride tells me they only have 40 pre-registrations so far.
Project Pride likes to pre-register folks primarily to get a head count of how many will be attending the Banquet on Friday night. All the panels, tours, Swap Meet, Pavilion activities etc. are presented at no cost. Your registration fee covers coffee & donuts Friday morning, lunch at the Pavilion Friday noon, the Friday Banquet and the Saturday BBQ.
The cost for pre-registration this year is only $15 per person. Please send your name(s) & address with a check or money order or register via PayPal: ProjPride@yahoo.com

Attn: REH Days 2012 Pre-registration
PO Box 534
Cross Plains, TX 76443
The Friday night banquet will be at the Baptist Church Family Life Center -- a new location with plenty of room to accommodate all of us.
After the banquet this year there’s a new and exciting panel this year:
“Fists at the Icehouse”
Bring your flashlights and enjoy another presentation of one of the most popular panels ever at Howard Days. We’ll walk from the Pavilion or meet uptown at the actual site of the Ice House where REH practiced his pugilistic prowess. REH boxing experts Mark Finn and Chris Gruber will square off with the help of cornerman Jeff Shanks.
Come and meet Charles Hoffman, the Guest of Honor this year. His bio is posted on the REHupa website along with a list of the events and any information you will need to know in order to have a great time: http://www.rehupa.com/?page_id=3299
Hope to see y'all there....

The kind folks at Project Pride in Cross Plains, who are the main sponsors of Howard Days, have asked me to remind everyone that if you are coming down to please register and send your $15 (total) for the three meals they are going to serve you. Project Pride would really like to know in advance how many folks are coming in, primarily so they can accurately feed everyone for the Friday Night Banquet. While you don’t need to register for just coming to Howard Days (all the activities, House tours, panels, etc. are free) Project Pride would like to be able to accommodate everyone with the meals. The deadline for registering is June 1, but through Sunday the 3rd should do the trick. You can send a check ($15.00 per person to Project Pride, POB 534, Cross Plains, TX 76443) or pay via PayPal at ProjPride@yahoo.com.
And while you’re at it, if you haven’t sent your REH item donations to the Silent Auction, there is still time to do that, even if you aren’t coming to Howard Days. It is much appreciated as the money goes to Project Pride’s annual upkeep of the Robert E. Howard Museum. Or you can bring them to the House on Friday the 8th and Arlene will make sure they get into the Auction.
Much appreciated, y’all. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Howard Days next week! Safe travels!

Seriously, it really is a great experience. I'd love to see more people from the boards there. If you're a fan of REH you owe it to yourself to make this pilgrimage at least once.
I completely agree. My wife and I met so many wonderful people last year and had such an amazing time that we cannot wait for this year's festivities. I'm looking forward to meeting more fellow Howard fans.

I will be there, looking forward to meeting everyone all over again!
Just today I found out about three bundles of very special and unique items that are coming in for the auction. One from each coast, and one from little ol' Texas.
And remember, this is a CONAN anniversary, so everyone wear your fur diaper!
(Now to see who falls for THAT one, hee-hee.)

So, be sure to check this guy's work out. He told me long ago he decided to become a poet because he read REH's poetry. Not bad.

It looks like we will be having an extra attendee with my wife and I; our son Fletcher will be tagging along. I hope everyone is ready to be amazed by one cute kid.
