I am aware that Atlanteans worshipped Valka and perhaps some other gods. I am wondering three things:
1. Do we have any evidence as to the nature of Atlantean religion?
2. How was it related to the Cimmerian religion, if at all? Was it similar in any obvious ways?
3. Is there any information on just what happened to Atlantean religion? Did it sink under the waves with the reversion of Thurean Atlanteans to ape-men?

I did a search on the forum but couldn't find any real discussions of Atlantean religions, aside from a couple of references in regards to Cimmerian religion.

The Atlanteans worshiped Valka, as did (apparently) most of the rest of the planet. Poseidon worship seems a possiblilty. According to REH, worship of the ape-god, Xulthas, occurred at some point in Atlantean history.

It would appear that all vestiges of Atlantean religion was lost when the Continental Atlanteans descended into apedom (they didn't even retain language, for Crom's sake).

BTW, there IS a thread which discusses Howard's references to Atlantis throughout his yarns, poems and letters.

Hope that helps. :)

It makes me wonder if Valka is a dead god now.

I think that Howard had mispelled "vodka". Wouldn't that make more sense? ;)

Well if we take into consideration the Jugian concept of archetypes no God or Goddess is ever really dead they have merely become a battery at rest waiting for worshippers to put energy into reviving their worship therefore recativating them.

'Valka' is actually quite similar to the PIE god Vada, who was often used as or merged with the king-god, sky-god and storm gods. Wotan keeps the name of Vada, for example. The other high-god was the all-encompassing sky-god Dyeus, who is the one we are most familiar with (Zeus, Jupiter).
Valka may well be worshipped by the post Nordheimr Scandinavian races as Vada/Vodtan/Odin. It might also offer a pseudo-etymology for 'Valkurie'; whereas the Mediterraneans continued to worship Zeus whose supremacy they had inherited from the early Aryan expansions.
