By the way, in Marvel Comics you often see Conan wearing a mail-vest type of armour. I havent been able to find a pic yet. But it is open in the middle and with shoulders unarmored, length to the waist so the end is hidden by the belt.

This vest perhaps you can put on fast and unassisted, like you would a jacket. But would it be practical to wear?

Actually, the chainmail T-shirt is quick and easy to put on: accordion-fold it, raise it over your head with hands in the armholes, and let it drop. The quick way to take it off is to bend over as if you were going to touch your toes, and let it slide off down your arms. :) It will naturally accordion-fold into the configuration for putting it on.

But of course, it doesn't show off your "cleavage" and "guns" as does the vest you describe. <_<

Sounds like a nice thing to wear in the summer.

Chainmail is kind of oppressively uncomfortable in my experience. All the weight hangs on your shoulders and if you have a coif it puts pressure on your neck. Plate armor is much more comfortable to wear, as long as it's not too hot.

It's helpful to wear a belt outside the mail shirt, with the shirt bloused over the belt, so the belt supports part of the weight.

Reminds me of something someone told me once; belts are for hanging your tools on, not keeping up your pants. That's what suspenders are for.O

One of Conan's little hailed feats of toughness is sleeping in armor. I don't know if I could sleep in armor unless I was half-dead from lack of sleep.

I've slept in plate armor more than once. One time I was in a sitting position; the armor actually held me up while I relaxed inside it. True, I was wiped out every time.

I love how plate armor is self-supporting. That's the main reason I prefer it to maille, but I can't afford a suit of real plate right now and I don't buy armor/weapons unless they're top-of-the-line and battle-ready. Modern metallurgy and ancient combat made me a gladius that can cut down a tree, haha.

Keith Taylor took pains to point that out in his "Bard" novels" written 20-30yrs ago.
