SPOILERS
Highlight to read.
Too much time compression. One minute, the hero is a peurile long-longhaired loser, then he decides to join the Navy, then the next minute he is a lieutenant commander, XO on a destroyer. Still with the same loser personality. But he "heroes up" under adversity.
One minute, the Earth is sending radio signals to Gliese 581g, 20 light years away; the next minute the Gliese invasion fleet arrives Even if the Gliesans have instantaneous warp drive, it should have taken 20 years
Fortunately the alien invaders have a critical weakness.
But, as I said, it is good light entertainment.

And what's up with the satellite? What prevented NASA from shutting it down, or the Pentagon from SHOOTING it down?!
Still, decently entertaining.

I wasn't disappointed, but it wasn't very serious.
I went into thinking it was going to totally suck. For the first two acts, I was surprised that I was actually enjoying the film. The first 75% of the movie is fun, popcorn, summer entertainment.
Then....the last act game. I supposed the director wanted to ramp it up. Well, he ramped it up so much that it just got silly. The ending totally ruins the film for me. I'm talking roll-your-eyes, silly.

If that's true, then it's a much worse flop than John Carter.Battleship cost around $225 million and so far made about 20 million. Hit and sunk by The Avengers! I'll rent it on DVD.
Even though I enjoyed both movies. I thought BB was entertaining fun, but JC was awesomely inspiring.

as soon as is saw the critics bashing on this movie i knew for sure that
i would defenitly like it

As long as you can live with plot holes large enough to fly a galaxy through (I can)... then it should be OK.

Yeah, it's getting whipped hard in North America, but check out the world wide gross before writing this off as a major flop. This movie was released in Europe before here, and it made over $275 million already. Not exactly a "flop", but not in the same league as Avengers, either.Battleship cost around $225 million and so far made about 20 million. Hit and sunk by The Avengers! I'll rent it on DVD.

See, now this is a good review. I used to write movie reviews for a local magazine and just kinda tell it like it is. I usually rated movies based off the category. For example, "If you love action movies with lot's of people being shot, you'll probably like this movie."
For me, I like westerns, so if it's a decent western, I'll probably enjoy it.
I'll be looking forward to watching Battleship and John Carter, that did horrible in theaters, because of simple reviews from this board. Otherwise I never would have given these flicks much consideration before.

Big science problems (unless the aliens had some kind of FTL relay for the Beacon signal) but it was a real kick to see an old-style battleship blazing away at alien invaders. And the scene with the navy vets gave me a genuine lump in the throat. The AC/DC montage afterwards was perfect.
Plus, how many movies are there where a man with no legs beats up a bunch of aliens? Kubrick and Fellini may have made "great" films, but they never gave us anything like that.

On top of all this, there's that seaborn 180 trick with the anchor. Good grief, Charlie Brown! Gimmie a break!
My verdict: Fun for 2/3rds of the movie with the last 1/3rd being totally unbelievable, destroying the entire pic.

Aliens attack the Earth, but only the last 1/3 is unbelievable? Your disbelief must weigh as much as the BB Missouri.I actually liked the film until they got to the Missouri. C'mon, the thing starts! That ship has been sitting there for decades, but this one just starts right up. And...they keep ammo aboard, a museum piece? And...there's enough old timers around to man the ship?
