Calling all cromrades that have ever put pencil to paper and drew a mighty barbarian (or mini me one), you are welcome to post whatever you consider to be your version of any REH character ranging from his barbarian tales to his horror. I will start off by posting an old El Borak one I did last year. Enjoy.

Nice piece, reminds me of the girl in Melius movie Osric daughter tied to the pillar. Sun captures the feeling of heat too, I would have just done a round circle. :)
Did you add any colour to the Dark Horse entry?

Gaijinn, your picture of Conan on the cross is SMASHING!
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Thanks, Dave! Yeah, if I were to do any part over, I'd probably get rid of the wavy heat circles around the sun. I was trying to make it look very comic-like, but the lines should be more subtle, I think.

I didn't add any color. Had I known I was up against some very professional quality stuff (including the one that won), I might have reconsidered...for what it would have been worth heh. Anyway, I at least had fun with it, and that's what counts. :)

I remember two forum members who did their take on Conan very well. The one is Crom's Mercy. http://www.conan.com...topic=7609&st=0 and another is Krommtar but he's banned so I cannot get to it. Anyway, Krommtar's avatar is a crop of one of two drawings he posted and I like it very much. It's dark, grim and deeply atmospheric.

Oh, and of course Pain's rendition http://thecimmerian....brush-style.jpg

?Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in an attractive and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne in one hand,
strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming?.. WOO HOO?. What a RIDE!?

Tight lines and pencil work. Thoths summoned pet is brilliant and suits the REH story to a T, even the armour that Conan has on, if my memory serves me well.

I looked at my El Borak and a few people prefer my B&W as my colouring is crap!! (and the art lol) :) I will stick up to compare....

I think wee oldies here are tainted with B&W genes and you youngones probably prefer the colour tbh. But hey the artist can make the final call I suppose. :)

A quote from one of my favorite books:

"Arrakis teaches the attitude of the knife — chopping off what’s incomplete and saying: "Now it’s complete because it’s ended here."

I think your black and white illustration is the "complete one", Dave.

A three-in-one (printer/copier/scanner) can be bought new for as little as $40 (or much more if you like).
