I had to share this with you guys.

Prometheus is out. I was so stoked for this film that you could tie a flag on me wee-wee and let it flutter in the breeze. I saw it...and, I was disappointed. I liked it...OK. But, it didn't give me what I wanted and expected.

I felt like the film was trying to be more of a sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey than a prequel to Alien.

Well, it turns out that the film really is quite deep. Most of what I'm about to lead you to flew right over my head (and I'm sometimes real good at seeing symbolism and deep meanings in films). But, I totally missed the ball on this one.

Take a gander at this web page: http://cavalorn.live...com/584135.html
Even if you don't agree, there's lots provided there to fire up your grey matter, leading to long, all-night discussions. It's cool stuff.

BUT DON'T READ UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN THE FILM!

- Boot

EDIT: Just thiking out loud, I took the planet where the film takes place, LV 223, and I thought....I'd see what Leviticus 22:3 says....

22:3 Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.

Hmm...interesting. Goes with the film.

Thanks for that link. For me, the movie was so murky, I thought I wouild have to read the book (will there be one?) in order to understand the movie. Despite the mukiness, I was engrossed by the movie.

"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

I was a little worried about the movie after reading some of the reviews, but I think Ridley did well. Most people were expecting a movie more akin to Alien even though the studio stated multiple times that is was really just in the same universe like Blade Runner. I may be the only person who actully liked Blade Runner more then the Alien series (after the second one it all goes down hill).

One of my friends thought it would be more like Avitar and he disliked it for that reason. Hopefully people like that don't hurt the movie to much, because a second Promethues would be great. It was about time a more mature, thought provoking Si-Fi movie came out. We will most likly just end up with another Transformer movie though.

There is another Prometheus. It's called "Alien".

Are you saying that you think Blade Runner and Alien happen in the same universe?

I saw the movie a week or two ago (when it was released in France), and I've been quite pleasantly surprised. I was quite afraid it would suck, but it didn't.
First of all, it visually blew me away, I'm someone who's usually agaisnt 3D and the overuse of CGI, but this movie is really visually impressive.
Also, like Boot said, it is a very deep movie, that raises a lot of metaphysical questions, and gives some very interesting answers.
I was also really impressed by Michael Fassbender's perfomance.

On the down side, I think there are a lot of weaknesses, it really left me with the feeling that the movie had been chopped up in the editing room, and that there would be a director's cut, but I read a Ridley Scott's interview where he said it wasn't the case, so sadly that means there are a lot of minor incoherences that kind of ruined it for me, I don't now how you guys feel about it ...

All in all I think it was a very good movie, but it could have been way better. And if you go see it expecting an Alien movie, you'll be disappointed, but with you go see it with an open mind, you'll have a great time.

-SPOILER-
(Also, this is one cheesy old-man make up, and in such a clean-looking movie, that really puzzled me ...)

Are you saying that the studio claimed that Prometheus and Blade Runner are set in the same universe? Then I would like to see a source for that, because that is so obviously not true.

I liked it. Didn´t see much bladerunner in there but why not. I hope there will be a sequel and a book, so I might get it. Those boiled old eggs were nasty...they would have needed a Conan.

I absolutely loved it! Everything about it!

I like how it never explained anything! I loved the ending! I loved the horror! Really liked the biological-warfare slant on the Xenos. It's cool how you don't know if the Engineers made the Xenos or if the Xenos predated them. (It could be either or both. The ancient Mural shows the Xeno, yet they show a mutant precurser alien at the end but that can't be the true precurser when they had murals thousands of years ago showin the real Xeno. Notice the Engineers ship and armor looks very Xenoish).

I was worried the Engineer(Space Jockey) would be destroyed by this movie. Yet really, they just open many more questions about them and don't really spoil them. I hated the idea of them having human faces, but really its not that big a deal and makes sense in the context of this movie. They are pilots and wear the cool helmets anyway. I always hoped they would look exactly like the full-suited version with the helmet. Since the Jockey only talks a little bit and it is in a new language that is not translated they still seem very mysterious. I love that you actually get to see one suit-up and fly the ship.

I really liked the ending!

I rank it up there with Alien/Aliens and hope they do NOT make a sequel.

I really enjoyed PROMETHEUS. If you went in wanting ALIEN/ALIENS then you will be disappointed.

I went in just hoping for a good Ridley Scott Sci Fi film and I got that.

I actually really really enjoyed it and I love movies that give you more questions than answers.

Not having seen it, are there spoilers in the ending that we need to watch out for?

Someone suggested that Charlize Theron's character, Meredith Vickers, the daughter, might be an android, but I don't think so. In the entire series of Alien movies, it seems that androids are really fascinated by Xenomorphs, but I didn't see that in Meredith's behavior. Actually, there's all sorts of reasons why she isn't an android.

Actually, there's all sorts of reasons why she isn't an anderoid.

Except, of course, the obvious reason that androids are a bit harder to destroy than humans, and thus she could return in the sequel.

I watched it again in 3D and absolutely, positively, love this film. There were two major things I missed the first time through so that makes it even better!

Instant Classic!!!

I might end up watching it again, but after one viewing it was just OK. There was alot of potential that just wasn't explored for some reason. At least it wasn't a Star Wars prequel.

Here's a more critical review of the movie, and it does have spoilers: http://www.juliansan...a-partial-list/

I have to agree with the more critical review. That's why I had so much trouble understanding the movie. :(

Yeah a bunch of that criticism is true but I also know there will be a better cut of this that will probably smooth out "some" of it. I still really enjoyed the movie.

I came to the conclusion on the ride home afterward that this was indeed a reboot disguised in a "prequel". It had all the elements (bad robot, alien impregnation/ extraction, tough female and ethnic leads, Giger landscapes, etc.) that took Ripley 4 movies to deal with.

Yawn Mr. Scott. You have done better.

Man, this must be the most polarizing film of the year. Every day someone is telling me how much they loved/hated it. Sometimes it's the same person.

Me, I'm waiting for the inevitable Director's Cut.
"It is more than a mortal sea. Your hands are red with blood and you follow a red sea-path, yet the fault is not wholly with you. Almighty God, when will the reign of blood cease?"

Turlogh shook his head. "Not so long as the race lasts."
