Guys, that cover.

Happy frolicking girl on a horse?
With little flying stars and butterflies?

Okay Dark Horse I get it. You're breaking the mold. Creating a Post-Arnold Conan. Seeking an audience beyond those just as likely to be picking up a copy of 'Mega-Pumped Steroid Monster Monthly'.
But what the heck?

Could you work any harder to alienate anybody who's admired a Conan cover at any point in the past 45 years?

Ahhh...well, um....ahhh...yeah. Not what I think of when I think Conan cover, I'll give them that.

The artwork itself looks OK, but I agree Conan needs an older look.

Speaking for myself...I'm done with this arc.A few weeks ago I requested the proprietor of the local comic book shop to cancel any further issues of "QOTBC" for me.I refuse to spend another dime on this tripe.I think DH is in a comfort zone where they feel they can throw anything at you and it will just be accepted. There were times in the past when Marvel tried experimenting with Conan a little bit but I can tell you they never went this far.I,for one,am done with it.When the next arc begins I'll be back, depending on the quality.Til then they can keep this crap.

It may seem narrow-minded or superficial of me and I realize that the story and writing should be considered but for me the artwork has been so jarringly bad I would't even pick up this series,The story may have merits on it's own ....I don't know I haven't read anything outside of the previews. The artwork I've seen posted on here would just serve to just pull me out of the story. To me its that big of a distraction.Conan has not looked right since this series began,at least what I've seen of it.He looks as some state on here "*****fied"He look's nothing like I'd imagine Conan to look,he looks like the polar opposite. Some fans seem to favor Cloonan's portrayal of Belit as a high point and I'm not saying shes a bad artist just that the whole direction and style of this series is just wrong for Conan. There maybe be sales numbers to support it but I really cant see why.But then to each their own.I'm definitely not impressed they'll have to come up with better before they get my money.

It just keeps going from bad to worse. I shudder to think of what kind of "art" they will be foisting on those who stick with this series until the end. If they should decide to hire proper artists I might consider buying from them again, but this whole thing has left a very bad taste in my mouth and I may not choose to give them another chance to pull the rug out from under my feet.

I don't like what I see, as far as the art is concerned, but I'll wait to see the final product before I make any big decisions. I suppose we can take comfort in the fact that this artist is only temporary.

And the cover art is good on it's own, but I feel like it would fit better on a Rainbow Brite comic.

I'm with you on that. The interior art looks unusual but I could take that. A guest artist, some experimenting, etc. I'm not excited, but I understand.

The cover still has me completely gob-smacked.
It is so utterly different from any Conan cover ever produced for any medium (comic, pulp magazine, paperback, hardcover) that it leaps off the screen and pokes me in the eyeballs with its absurdity.

Honestly, I'm tempted to see it as a parody, a humorous jab at us aging Conan fans with our moldy old Frazetta posters still stuck up on our walls with yellowed Scotch Tape.
What's next? Belit sitting in a flower garden under a rainbow having a tea party with the Smurfs?

Bring it on, Dark Horse!

Just the opposite, I would say. There aren't enough readers of the "classic" Conan-style to keep the franchise alive, so they need to do something to go beyond the established fan base and convince regular comic readers to pick up a copy. Change or die.

And you know ... sales figures. It is working. QOBC outsells the more classic King Conan.

The real problem I have is that the artists are all incredible at doing backgrounds, but just can't draw faces. Look at those preview panels. The snowy wood scene looks great. But then the close-ups ...

Wow, I was not impressed at all when I first read the preview pages of Conan 5, but this is far worse... What can I say?
The art has absolutely nothing to do with Conan. Nothing. And here we have again another change in pace when it comes to the artist.
Dark Horse, how many more artist will be doing this arch? 10? 15? What a mess!
This art is maybe worse than Hawthorne. Sorry, Dark Horse, if you think I`ll be buying every piece of crap you release, I won`t. I stopped collecting Chronicles of Conan a long time ago and haven`t bought the last volumes of SSoC neither, because quality has dropped real bad. Completists give Dark Horse the money they want and make them just stay in their confort zone, knowing every month the barbarian loyal fans will be buying their stuff. Not for me!
If Dark Horse does not up their game real quick, they won`t see my money anytime soon.
Probably not getting this book. Very low effort. A bummer, that is what it is.

Brian Wood said that the artist would change pretty much with every story arc. He isn't thrilled about that, but that's the way it is.

Almost all of the artists he is working with he pulled from his Northlands series.

LOL!!

Agree with the cover comments... it is just not right for Conan.

You guys have it wrong! The summary says that there's a fake Conan. The boy we see in the previews is obviously the fake Conan. So when will the real Conan come thundering in to crush this imposter?
"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard
