"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

AVATARS GALORE
HYBORIAN Limericks + Rhymes
Lots of FUN and serious new RHYMING Hyborian/Fantasy poetry.
"So I took to a life of adventure and daring
leaving most warriors drooling and staring.
After I danced with my exotic flesh baring
I would vanish into the new Sunrise glaring."

Ok my idea is why don't we do our own graphic novels as a protest against the way DH has been treating our favorite mayhem dealer?
Just an idea, folks.

I highly doubt that CPI or Dark Horse would take kindly to our infringing on their rights and property.
Can't speak for anyone else here, but I don't want to see my name listed in a lawsuit.
Also, while I have not been 100% pleased with the way Dark Horse has handled the title, I do believe that they are more faithful to the character then Marvel ever was.
And force upon Mankind the Freedom he fears--
And dead gods I will again defy?"

wouldn't even a short graphic novel [ comic ] be a tremendous huge ammount of work for an artist ?Apologies guys...it seems part of the text has been swallowed by unknown mischieff.

and, if it were about Conan, then you would not own the rights, and therefore could not profit from it, elsewhere?
if i were an artist, i might create my own warrior character [ and other characters ] in my own ancient fantasy world.
He could be similar to Conan, but is not THE Conan of REH /Paradox.
Good luck with all your projects.

Probably better to let Dark Horse run their title into the ground and hope that someone with respect for the character takes it up.

Straight adaptations of the public domain stories should be doable, but new stories would clearly fall afoul of trademark law. You'd have to be very careful about violating Paradox's trademarks. Even adapting public domain stories could bring a lawsuit and even if you win, would it be worthwhile?

I was thinking more on the lines of Fanfiction, and public domain stories...maybe just a stupid crazy idea...but then again, doing movies is way harder and some of you are into that...

More comic adaptations is a fine idea: even if you love Wood, Cloonan & Harren's work, there's no reason such a great story should only have a few adaptations. We already have a brilliant and very faithful "Queen of the Black Coast" adaptation in Petri Hiltunen's phenomenal work, but as long as it's either non-profit work and/or made with the blessing of Paradox, I say the more the merrier. By thunder, if I wasn't up to my eyeballs in "80 Years of Conan" and the encyclopaedia, I'd be tempted to get started on my own comic adaptations.

That's what I'm talking about...Non-profit, just for the fun of it...I'm already working on an adaptation of "A Witch Shall Be Born"...Hope to bring you guys a few pages soon for critique...

Fixed that. One may as well charge a nickle every time you use the word 'their' because you didn't invent it, or say that you can't copy someone else's style of playing basketball. It's arbitrary, thuggish and based solely on the argument of all monopolists (urr, my service is essential, I need subsidies and legal protection to prevent other people from doing what they want and competing with me!) Shakespeare wrote without copyright, if Dark Horse can't they deserve to go bankrupt. Thus Spake Sariputta.
IP is a scam, though as a practical sentiment I somewhat agree; they have lawyers and fools and government thieves to support them so it might be unwise. But you could do it in China.

I've done my share of bitchin', but wouldn't it be FAR more constructive to buy/promote the Truman/Giorello adaptations of "Phoenix" and "Dragon"? I am. SALES MATTER. Little "non-profit" adaptations will sway nobody with any say. REWARD the accurate adaptations that are out there.

Asked if there any projects he wished he'd passed on, Wood joked, "Well, after reading the Conan boards, maybe 'Conan!'"
As this topic suggested about doing REH Conan justice by doing our own, why do that and face copyright issues when you can do REH justice by doing some work on his lesser known heros like Steve Costigan, El Borak and others? Would it not be more feasible to focus on these and get their names out there?
