I've wanted for some time to digitise this book to keep it safe from being lost, but put it off because of the amount of time it would consume. My copy is in mint condition, so I wouldn't want to bend the spine scanning it. My only option, then, is to type it up.

I thought of recording a reading of it and then transcribing it so that I wouldn't have to bend the spine holding to book open. Again, labourious, but less so.

Finally, I've decided to start recording a definition at a time, reading alphabetically, and adding to it slowly. I was thinking of possibly making this into a daily podcast (it possibly constitutes "fair use", but in either case Starmont no longer exists as an entity to enforce copyright). I'll be using this topic to request opinions on pronunciation.

Feel free to comment on the idea below.

Or find someone willing to sell or give you a copy that is beat up and won't care if you make it worse?

Dantai! I've wanted to read the "Gazetteer" for a long time. ever since I saw it advertised in the back of SSoC.

One thing that made me want to peruse it was the fact that "Lee Falconer" was actually Julian May, author of the "Pliocene Saga" and one of my favorite authors of the '80s. B)

Another factor was that Starmont seems to have usually put out quality product (hence, a reason for their demise).

The factors against my buying TGotHWoC would be its rarity and the fact that it seems to include a LOT of pastiche (mostly De Camp) references (quite common during the period when it was published).

I've decided to start recording a definition at a time, reading alphabetically, and adding to it slowly. I was thinking of possibly making this into a daily podcast (it possibly constitutes "fair use", but in either case Starmont no longer exists as an entity to enforce copyright). A podcast would be cool! B) BTW, we have a "pronunciation" thread here: http://www.conan.com...02&hl=pronounce

I've looking around, but can't find a podcast host to my taste. Any suggestions? I literally just want something that allows me to record audio through my browser without faffing around on my computer.

Have you tried BlogTalkRadio.com yet? I'm the "Official Chronicler" for my Brudda's podcast, Clobberin' Time, and it seems to work alright We're doing our 363rd issue tonight--yeah, I said issue because we're comic book geeks over there at the Baxter Building Basement. The site's not without glitches, but you can do a podcast live relatively easy (you can even have a live chat room if you want.)

The site archives the shows about 20ish minutes after they're over, so folks can download them for playing on their fave portable device, or they can listen from the site itself.

Hell, tonight's show is Open Geek Talk (where we talk about ANYTHING genre related,) so why not call in and ask some questions about BTR and doing a podcast with the guy who's been doing it since 2009?

This is the direct link to tonight's show...

We're on from 8 to 10 Central Time, and it'd be GREAT to have a fellow Howard fan call in!

I would LOVE for someone to do a Howard-related podcast (and I bet I'm not the only one.)

We'd have to think of something with a bit more content to do a Howard segment. Reading from the Gazeteer wouldn't really fill up much time. I dunno, maybe a reading of a random article from the Gazeteer as part of a more substantial Howard talk. You know, like "Today's word is: Abombi".

We'd definitely have to get more input from the community here.
