So this arrived today...in hardback? All the others I've collected has been in trade paperbacks. So, I checked my Amazon order, and yep, sure enough, I ordered the hard cover version....

...except I looked, and there was no TPB released.

It looks like Vol. 12 is HC only?

I checked the Dark Horse site, and there's no softcover due this year.

EDIT: I got it from Amazon for $13 bucks, so I'm not complaining. I've spent more on earlier TPBs.

You know, on more than one occasion in the past when I've pre-ordered DH Conan collections on Amazon the entry originally says "hardcover" but then is changed to "paperback" closer to the release date. Funny that that doesn't seem to be the case with this volume.

I always just assumed the hardcovers were only available directly through DH or TFAW or whatever.

I'm more surprised that you've received yours already, Boot. Mine hasn't even shipped yet. Hell, it's not even listed as "shipping soon". <_<

I usually see the HCs and the TPBs sold at the same time. You've got your choice. Which is why I thought it strange that only the HC was available, and at a price less expensive than most TPBs.

Got my "throne of Aquilonia" volume 12 trade in the mail friday afternoon. (2 days ago) I also got the hardcover edition, and it was only 19.99 versus 24.99 which most of the other hardcover editions cost me years ago. Weird. I also used amazon. I fully expected the softcover, but was pleasently surprised! It was almost like I got upgraded because I preordered it.

I stopped collecting when cary nord left the conan books(I know...I'm ashamed), so I got some catching up to do. I want to be up to speed before Hour of the Dragon starts coming out!

Anyone else have this happen?

A friend of mine just gave me a belated Xmas present: the trade collections of Road of Kings, and Throne of Aquilonia, autographed by John Lucas. It was SO refreshing to see Conan looking and acting like Conan. :)

"Did you deem yourself strong, because you were able to twist the heads off civilized folk, poor weaklings with muscles like rotten string? Hell! Break the neck of a wild Cimmerian bull before you call yourself strong. I did that, before I was a full-grown man...!" - Conan, in "Shadows in Zamboula", by Robert E. Howard
"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Yeah, and sounding like him, too.

Prince: "I like the way you handle yourself, Cimmerian. And I wager you can wield that sword just as well."
Conan: "There are men in hell who would agree with you, Prince."

Maybe it doesn't look like much at first glance, but that's great stuff. Conan's response is badass, yet casual, even polite. The line actually manages to sound like something REH's character might say.
I miss Roy Thomas. He knows the Cimmerian.

I am so BORED with this graphic novel!  I mean, it's CONAN!  It's ROY EFF-IN THOMAS!  IT SHOULD BE ROCKIN' MY WORLD!

I don't like the art.  The story seems like Thomas phoned it in while driving to pick up his laundry.  None of the characters, including Conan, are interesting.  It's taking me forever to get through this book.

Oh, well, almost done.  I just want to finish, throw it on the stack, and move on.

Of course, then, I'm going to trudge through Queen of the Black Coast when it arrives next month.

I didn`t buy this trade because I know it is awful.

I decided to save some money for the cinema on friday. Good deal.
